The Horror of Tear Gas ! ! !

"The Horror. The Horror." __Colonel Kurtz in Apocalypse Now (1979)

"The same tear-gas agent that the Trump administration is taking heat for deploying against a border mob this weekend is actually used fairly frequently — including more than once a month during the later years of President Barack Obama’s administration, according to Homeland Security data.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection has used 2-chlorobenzylidene malononitrile, or CS, since 2010, and deployed it 26 times in fiscal 2012 and 27 times in 2013. The use dropped after that, but was still deployed three times in 2016, Mr. Obama’s final full year in office.

Use of CS rose again in fiscal 2017, which was split between Mr. Obama and Mr. Trump, and reached 29 deployments in fiscal 2018, which ended two months ago, according to CBP data seen by The Washington Times.

Border authorities also use another agent, pepper spray, frequently — including a decade-high record of 151 instances in 2013, also under Mr. Obama. Pepper spray, officially known as Pava Capsaicin, was used 43 times in fiscal year 2018, according to the CBP numbers.

The data poses a challenge to the current anger over the Border Patrol’s use of tear gas Sunday to prevent a mob from busting through sections of old border fence in California."

n.b. For those who may consider The Washington Times a questionable source, DonDiego provides confirmation from Snopes:  Did the Obama Administration Use Tear Gas Once a Month at the Border?

Conclusion:

What's True

Customs and Border Protection agents used tear gas 1.3 times per month on average between 2012 and 2016, the final five years of Barack Obama's tenure as president.

Figures are not available for the first few years of Obama's tenure as president, from 2009 to 2011.

Don, context is everything.  Do you have any pictures of Obama gassing young mothers and their children?

The brave? single male invaders pushed the women & children to the front while they stayed in the rear

Mark, context is everything.  DonDiego supposes everyone within the photograph were all trying to cross the border illegally.   Apparently the Mother decided to take the risk with her children to cross the border illegally.

Can Mark explain to poor old DonDiego any other reason how that Mother and her children positioned themsleves within a rock throwing predominantly male crowd rushing the border fence.

Badly thought through decisions can result in bad consequences.  Especially when hanging out in bad company.

No, the mother was told to go to the port of entry by the Trump administration to file her asylum claim, so she could legally enter the country. That is where she was waiting. Trump then closed the port of entry. Legally questionable actions undertaken because of nothing more than racial animus leads to violent conditions and civil unrest.

I agree bad company can lead to bad consequences. Trump stocked his campaign and administration with criminals, opportunists, white nationalists, and even one bonafide Nazi.  Now, he wants to complain about all of the legal trouble he finds himself in.

Mark writes: "No, the mother was told to go to the port of entry by the Trump administration to file her asylum claim, so she could legally enter the country."

Pardon poor old DonDiego for asking, . . . but it seems unlikely that one would have to cross the Tijuana River, the ditch in the photograph, to access the Pedestrian Port of Entry which is located along a convenent roadway just a a few hundred feet east of her location.

In fact DonDiego suggests it would be very difficult to access to the Port of Entry from the ditch.  The only legal place to cross is along the Via Oriente.

She'd've had to climb the south bank of the river, get onto the Via Internacional, take the pedestrian bridge across the Tijuana River, walk east along Puente el Chaparral, and onto the pedestrian bridge leading to the Port of Entry.

Perhaps she was lost; it can be difficult traveling with children.

An aside:

DonDiego used to cross the US-Mexican border quite a bit when he lived in El Paso, . . . into Juarez.  Inexpensive Mexican food. The racetrack.  Cheap trinkets.

And especialy the Sports book just a few blocks in on Avenida Benito Juarez; DonDiego really cleaned up on SuperBowl XXXIV.  The book offered all sorts of parlay options and apparently didn't understand the possibility of correlations among them.  So DonDiego placed bets on the side, the under and lots of parlays like time of possession, under, etc., etc., etc.

And he hit on everything, . . . for, umm, . . . several thousand dollars !

n.b. If Kevin Dyson of the Titans had been able to stretch another 2 yards on the final play of the game, poor old DonDiego would've lost  - BIG.  But he didn't.

Hmm, . . . the Nazi Party was officially dissolved on 10 October 1945.  The gentleman to which Mark refers gotta be over 90 !  DonDiego doubts the otherwise unidentified gentleman is capable of undermining the Republic significantly, . . . but perhaps he could offer poor old DonDiego some longevity tips.

Hmm, . . . the Nazi Party was officially dissolved on 10 October 1945.  The gentleman to which Mark refers gotta be over 90 !

Is that how it works?   Interesting.   Not so sure.  For instance,  the Confederacy was disolved 150 years ago...but Mississippi just put a bonfide Confederate as their newly elected Senator for Congress...

She done like da Confederates

"And in photos posted to her Facebook account in 2014, Hyde-Smith was pictured posing with Confederate artifacts during a visit to Beauvoir, the home and library of Jefferson Davis. The caption on the post read, "Mississippi history at its best!"

"Hyde-Smith was recorded telling supporters in Tupelo earlier this month that she'd be "on the front row" if one of her supporters there "invited me to a public hanging"

The best part about her election is the fact she was considered to be the moderate Republican during her primary.    Is that state ever going to join the 21st Century?

DonDiego is puzzled.  He cannot connect the terms "NAZI Party", "bonafide Confederate", "public hanging", and "a visit to Beauvor" to the topic of this thread: "The Horror of Tear Gas".

DonDiego apologizes for his feeble-mindedness.

P.S. Poor old DonDiego has driven by Beauvor in Biloxi, but he failed to drop in.  He was there primarily for the gambling.  As he recalls he did visit a nearby old Biloxi cemetery, but just to experience the ambiance, . . . not to pay his respects.

Sebastian Gorka never got the memo that the Nazi party was dissolved. Speaking of confederates, there is a guy that lives in a small town just a few miles from me that I always see driving around with two actual Confederate flags on poles trailing behind the cab of his Truck. He also has MAGA bumper stickers on his back bumper.  So, yes, there are real bonafide confederates out there.  That misguided fellow with the flags that I often see parked at the Dollar General store, thinks that the South is going to rise again in Mariah Hill, Indiana of all places.
