Hot Dog Eating Contests

I have often wondered each time these contests are held as to what the long term health concerns and ramifications that these participants may have as they get older. I just can't believe that anyone doing this to their body can go thru life without some future medical issues.

They keep it down for a certain amount of time and then vomit.

I always assumed they vomited after the contest was over.

My question is more about the possible long term ramifications that these people may have to their health.

If the contestants vomit soon after the contest is over, they won't absorb enough fat, calories, salt, etc. in that one session to do much long term damage.   Assuming they don't do such contests very often.

Participants do it for the fun of it, so let them have their fun.

Fun you say?  OK, I guess the money and percieved notoriety are immaterial. Speaking ONLY for myself, I would not participate in such events, I know I just don't have the guts for it.

I love Nathan's hot dogs, but I don't like watching this competition.

Oh I'd never do it, hot dogs or anything else.  But I'd not worry about those who do.  Different strokes and all that.  It seems to be a very longstanding form of entertainment at fairs, etc.

What movie was it that included a blueberry pie eating contest (or some fruit pie)?  Seems like one kid was set up with X-Lax in his pies so that he s**** his pants before the thing was over.  Gross!!!!!!!!

The winner, Joey Chesnut claims it takes him about 5 days to recover and not have indigestion. I can not imagine eating more than a couple dogs.
