How much will the debate matter?

It's a certainty: Trump will alternately behave like a toddler with diaper rash and an old man getting drunk in a dive bar. Biden will gamely try to stick to scripted answers. So this won't be a "debate" in any reasonable sense of the word. The question I have is, "Will it matter?"

I mean, are there still undecided people out there who will look at Trump's demeanor and behavior and say, "My God, I can't vote for THAT!'? I remember the first 2020 debate, a complete Trumperfuck if there ever was one, and thinking that Trump had just doomed himself with his childish behavior. But as I recall, the poll numbers barely moved.

Also...if a raft of felony convictions can't sway the MAGA faithful, how is an hour or two of televised "debate" going to make any difference to them? They'd still vote for Trump if he was a serial rapist. Oh, wait, he is a serial rapist.

   This debate will be a classic example of Biden being the emperior of "the emperiors new clothes". All of America will have the opportunity to see Biden's actual mental state - it will be both illuminating and shocking to all who have been lied to about his mental deterioration. The left, the lying liberal media and the DemocRats will sing false praises - Americans will see the truth. 

If that is true, why the change of tone from Team Trump?

Team Trump now says Biden is a clever guy that can't be underestimated in the debate?

None of the Faux News morons believe their own BS about Joe Biden's age and mental capacity.   If they did they wouldnt already be making excuses as to why Trump loses the debate.

I'm pretty sure those on the left will claim Biden won, those on the right will claim Trump won. When in reality we all lose.

Actually, you can refer to the first 2020 debate, when Fox News et al stridently and hilariously called it a big win for the Turd, but only half of the non-wacko news outlets claimed that Biden won. I expect something similar this time around
