How would you like to live in a true democracy?

I've talked about this before. We have a representative rather than a true democracy because in 1789, the latter would have been functionally impossible. But it would be easy now. The Internet is ubiquitous. Everyone has a computer or access to one.

All government actions are subject to a popular vote, with an agreed-upon quorum. Congress's function would be reduced to administrative and clerical only. And the President could not take any significant actions without the approval of the people.

Likewise, court actions would be subject to review by the people and canceled or modified if they deem it appropriate.

The rights of the people enumerated in the Constitution would remain and would in fact be strengthened, with direct referenda taking the place of long and costly court actions.

What do you think? Practical? Advisable?

I see another busy day in Kevin's make believe school

he complains about David's frequency of posts but he has 8 of the first 10 threads & a bunch on the second page.

You're right, I should have asked your permission.

I didnt complain about David's frequency of posts. We ALL complained about his frequency of threads started. So, stop lying.

It's hilarious that you claim to know all about my work schedule as well as the complete details of every job I've ever held.

You claim to be a teacher but school days run in the 8am to 4pm range but you are on this site all day.  Note that you responded within a few minutes from my post.

It is obvious that you don't have a work schedule

I'm not sure many people even really complained about it per se. Expressing opinion that the forum would function better if something is done differently is not really a complaint it's a strive for improvement.

Well, stupid Tom has, hilariously, claimed for years to know everything about me. He obviously has never held a job, since he doesn't know that employees in almost any job get coffee and lunch breaks.

So when he said I was complaining about the frequency of David's posts, I decided to expose the greater of the two lies contained in his Tom-statement. But really, he is best ignored. He's just on this thread to disrupt it.

It's interesting to think about and an idea that I think would be worth exploring.

One thought that comes to mind is that we would have to maintain an independent judiciary. We would have to maintain some sort of system of checks and balances because the people need a check on their power too.

The people being able to overturn a court ruling could be a double-edged sword. When courts ruled that slaves found in the northern states must be returned to the South it would have been nice for the people to be able to overturn that ruling. However, when courts ruled that public schools must desegregate I don't think it would advance the cause of freedom to have the people veto that Court decision.

We would need to find a way to help ensure that the system doesn't descend into mob rule. We wouldn't want this style of democracy to become five wolves and one sheep voting on what to have for dinner.

Perhaps an amendment to the current Constitution stating that all legislation passed goes to the people for a vote. " The Congress passed the milk for cute baby kittens act - should this law be implemented?" "Yes or no" .

You did mention that individual rights enshrined in the Constitution would remain however I wouldn't necessarily expect that alone to restrain the abuse by the people anymore than it has restrained the Congress.

If you'd toss in term limits, any actions to accommodate the people's will or voice works for me within certain limits. A huge caveat is that the degree of change required to facilitate your proposal wouldn't be very practical nor logistically easy. Plus you'd have to consider the resistance by the shallow and deep state infrastructures; those are pretty well entrenched. You'd have to sway these guys ( congress) who like their jobs and the associated power too much to give it up. It might lead to crappy DC cocktail parties in order to achieve our second Revolution.  *Shrugs*

Kevin can't ignore anybody

Since Kevin posts all day long, his make believe school must have 10 hour lunch breaks.

I  have had various financial positions in various media companies such as Hearst

. I own my own media consulting business with accounts in NY, Florida & Az; although I am cutting back

Tonight I am going to the My Generations Show at Talking Stick Casino while stupid Kevin will spend all night yelling at faceless people on this site.

Tom, if all that was anything other than a fairy tale, you would know at least some of the basics about business
