He was elected on lowering prices. If Spirit goes under the legacy airlines will increase their prices and on some routes they would raise substantially.
Bail them out so they continue to hold down prices. Jet Blue's stupidity is what killed them.

Actually it was the biden gang.
I will miss the YouTube videos of the Spirit Airlines fights if they were to go out.

“However, with the ruling from the federal court and the Department of Justice’s continued opposition, the probability of getting the green light to move forward with the merger anytime soon is extremely low,” Geraghty said in a memo to employees of New York airline. She said uncertainty over the merger’s fate was distracting the airline from its effort to return to profitability.
“Today’s decision by JetBlue is yet another victory for the Justice Department’s work on behalf of American consumers,” Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a statement. “The Justice Department proved in court that a merger between JetBlue and Spirit would have caused tens of millions of travelers to face higher fares and fewer choices. We will continue to vigorously enforce the nation’s antitrust laws.”
I would prefer if they go back to the merger.
I think companies need to be allowed to succeed or fail on their own. The government shouldn't bail them out.
It encourages bad business practices. Why run your business prudently when you know if you fail you'll just get bailed out anyway?

In general I agree with that premise but not in this case because of past precedent. Every existing legacy airline has been bailed out one or more times now so it makes no sense to not bail out the budget airline that holds prices down.

I understand your point but I think when the other airlines were bailed out that was also a bad decision. It never should have happened. I don't think they should continue making a bad decision just because that bad decision has been made before. At some point it has to stop.
