Idiot Republican Solutions To Mass School Shootings

PJ,

Assault is a verb or a noun, not an adjective. It is an action taken. Everyone has the ability to assault someone using a weapon. and that weapon can be anything. A rock. A stick. A hammer. A baseball bat. A knife. A vehicle.

Google HR 5087. It is a piece of legislation written by congressional Democrats late last month. It defines an "assault" weapon as any rifle or pistol that is semi-automatic. They want them all banned in the USA. That would be a huge majority of all of the guns in the USA. That's what Democrats REALLY want!

And republicans want no guns banned of any kind...and no background checks at gun shows...and allow for people on the terror watch list to legally buy guns....and not allow guns that have been confiscated off the street to be destroyed...and not to research the causes of gun violence.

i would say there is a football field length of common sense measures that can be taken between the loudest voices in both parties.    I was pleased to see Florida take some of those steps this past week with age requirements.. and I was pleased to see the Trump administration take (very small) steps this week too with bump stock crackdowns.     Neither measure was enough but probably as good as you can get from NRA backed politicians.

A bunch of strawmen there. There are already bans on some firearms and other weapons. Background checks are already required by federal law. No one knows they are on a "terror watch list" or why. That could easily be an open door to abuse by government officials that reaches all the way to the top. Remember Obama's IRS targeting conservative groups? I could see a high level gun control nut putting all registered Republican gun owners on a "terror watch list". Why prevent law enforcement agencies from selling legal firearms to people who can legally purchase them under any other circumstance? The causes of gun violence? Criminals possessing firearms illegally, mentally unstable people acquiring them (often illegally), and breakdowns in the background check system, i.e. people who are prohibited from owning firearms not showing up in the checks.

I know it is popular for the left to demonize the NRA. It is a civil rights organization that seeks to protect the constitutional rights of American citizens...but many on the left ignore the constitution.

We cant address gun violence because any action is  a slippery slope for the government to institute a police state.

Its a HUGE hurdle to overcome right wing paranoia.   HUGE.

Oh - and I see your still pushing the abusive IRS fairy tale - the one where the IRS said political super pacs should not be treated like charities (per their own rules) and yet ultimately only enforcing it against a liberal group.    Right wing revison of history is another huge hurdle.

"Oh - and I see your still pushing the abusive IRS fairy tale "

The IRS apologized for its actions in that case, so they must have done something wrong

By IRS you mean Jeff Sessions.

Indeed,  Jeff Sessions apologized to Karl Rove's, "Crossroads GPS" for being considered a political pac instead of a charity.    And also to the "Tea Party Patriot's of Denver"...  and also to "RedState Politics"....and also to "Louisville Grassroots Tea Party, Inc".....and also to all of these legitimate, non-political charities who were wrongfully accussed of being political groups

Society is full of idiots and misfits...

Paranoia comes from lots of directions.  DonDiego suggests whatever action is decided upon [if any], does not violate the following:

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

I have no problem with members of a well-regulated Militia being allowed to store their guns in their home when they are on leave from the military.
