Yet, there are hundreds of private medical coverage programs available. So you're...full of shit.
Transferring basic medical services such as hearing, sight, and dental to Medicare would decrease the overall cost to seniors. Which is the whole point of Medicare. It shouldn't be parceled out to multiple plans the way it is now. And yes, I'd pay higher taxes to support that.

Tom's stupidity and ignorance underscores the fundamental reason for government-provided single-payer health care. In addition to all the normal costs of care, private companies have to make a profit. Therefore, ceteris paribus, private health care costs more--for EVERYBODY.
As an example, how much does stupid Tom think it would cost to mail a letter if the USPS was privatized? A lot more than 68 cents!
