Illegal Alien . . .

, , , Seeking a Better Life

Anecdotes provide a great basis for generating stereotypes and public policy.

Given that - what broad brush stereotype can we conclude about Donald Trump's base given the Florida mail bomber?   And more importantly how should we go about removing them from our country?

I'm sure Tucker will cover it tonight.

Agree with Don's inuendo here.

I will add that plenty of legals have acted as badly or worse.  All I ask is that whomever invades our borders and avails themselves of the blessings and benefits (often more than legal citizens are eligible for) be accounted for and accountable.  We who are "born and bred" in the USA, the government knows who we are from the moment of our birth, where we live and work, whether we pay taxes on our hard earned earnings, and more.   On average (with exceptions), we behave in grade school or higher, strive to become gainfully employed, create our own modest standards of living, keep our property in order, obey the rule of law, and so on.

If we are from other countries and want to try out the USA, we [should] follow the application process and wait our turn, realizing this system is probably massively understaffed and the wait can be years.  But why should border jumpers cut in line ahead of those who legally apply and wait, drain the coffers of benefits awaiting those legal applicants who often already have sufficient skills to immediately obtain employment, and actually intend to be contributing members of our communities?

JMHO.

Seventy-five years ago, racist editors would look for any crime committed by an African-American and put it on the front page because it reinforced their, and their readers’, racist belief that such people were violence-prone and inferior.  Your—and Trump’s—highlighting of crimes by immigrants, when in fact research has shown over and over that first generation immigrants have a lower crime rate than native Americans, is simply a racist stereotype.  Welcome to the same moral standing as the 1950’s racists.

There really isn't much debate about securing the border.   The debate rests on what do with the people who are already here....and the children born to them in the United States ....and to refugees applying for assylum.

You can make a thoughful argument for or against the people in these situations.   But thats really not what the alt-right is engaging in.   Instead they use fear and stereo types about these people:  equating them to murderers, drug mules, or diseased vagrants.   Hence DonDiego's thread and previous threads.

Sometimes they even have an anecedote to back up their ignorance.   And sometimes they just make up fictional stories.   Neither approach is a thoughtful way to address the issue of immigration  in a country that prides itself on being a melting pot of ethnicities and cultures.   its really the way George Wallace approched these issues.   And thats what the alt-right is:  a manifestation of 1960's white nationalism.

Illegal aliens commit crimes at a higher rate than legals

Nothing racist about it

Re: PJStroh's post of 7:33am, November 16

i. "There really isn't much debate about securing the border."

DonDiego respectfully submits there is a lot of debate about securing the border.

Ref: The Economist

And there are lots of arguments addressing "open borders" a lot less thoughtful than The Economist.

ii. DonDiego requests PJStroh cite instances in which poor old DonDiego has "used fear and stereo-types about these people: equating them to murderers, drug mules, or diseased vagrants".

n.b. the post initiating this thread addresses a factual encounter between an illegal immigrant and a police officer.  DonDiego does not know nor does DonDiego assert that even this illegal immigrant is a murderer, drug mule, or diseased vagrant.  For the record he does suggest his behavior in this instance was improper.

And at about half the rate as natives.

You are 45% less likely to be victimized by an illegal alien than you are of someone that fits Tom's racial profile.   Nothing racist about that.

Collective Data (not anecdotes)

I refer DonDiego to the bipartisan bill the Obama Administration sponcered that provided provisions to secure the border and massively increase the size of border partol agents to a level higher than the population of the FBI.    Republicans would not allow it to go to vote in the House.

Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act of 2013

I refer DonDiego to his own title of this thread that denotes the immigration status of a murderer as being a key attribute to the story he proceeded to post.    I refer DonDiego to his "Invasion" thread where he spells out the reason he chose that word with a series of unflattering adjectives about those people.

DonDiego's non-racist, non-sterotypical comments about a caravan of refugees on its way to the United States:

"President Trump is sorta a modern Zorro protecting the citizens of el pais Estados Unidos from an invasion from the South.

invasion

noun

  1. an act or instance of invading or entering as an enemy, especially by an army.
  2. the entrance or advent of anything troublesome or harmful, as disease.
  3. entrance as if to take possession or overrun

"

What else can help with today?

Closet racists have—and continue—to assuage their conscience by denying it.  Actually, I have more respect for those admitted racists who are at least honest with themselves, then for the frauds who are racists by their actions & comments, but try to convince others, and themselves, that they are not.  If lying to yourself helps you feel better, so be it; however, your thought process does not change the fact of your racist comments.
