Indiana town learns elections have consequences

A red state community bet on carbon capture. Trump is blocking it.

"“This was going to be a demonstration project for the entire country,” said Don Caudell, the Republican mayor of Mitchell, with a population of 4,000. “Part of what is disheartening for us is so much had already been done and spent on this project, and now it has all come to a halt.”"

"“There is a growing international demand for this,” said Sean O’Neill, a vice president at the American Cement Association. "

"“The U.S. should lead in meeting that demand, rather than other countries likely to get funding and support from their governments,” O’Neill said. "

"“It did not appear they had a very deep understanding of the project,” said David Perkins, a vice president at Heidelberg North America, a subsidiary of the multinational firm headquartered in Germany."

"“There is an enormous export and growth market for these products,”" said

Andres Clarens, a professor of engineering at the University of Virginia who helped lead industrial decarbonization efforts in the Biden White House, "“We are basically saying to China: You can have this.”"

"The project was enthusiastically supported by GOP leaders in the state, who joined Biden administration officials at its unveiling. Now, the 1,000 temporary construction jobs and three dozen long-term positions at the plant it promised are in jeopardy. And Heidelberg could be forced to shift the demonstration project to one of its plants abroad."

Be careful who you vote for; he might be an idiot.

This is the disaster that is Trump writ small.

Lawrence County supported Trump with 75% of the vote in 2024.

Almost makes you feel bad for them, doesnt it?

......Almost.

I still support the division of the United States into America (blue) and Trumpland (red). Two independent countries. While red states are getting the economic disaster they eagerly voted for, blue states don't deserve it.

Chase all the brown people from Trumpland into America and let Trumpland's crops rot. Remove tariffs for America and keep them in Trumpland and see who bothers to trade with Trumpland. Maintain tax giveaways for the rich in Trumpland while implementing a fair tax system in America, and see which government runs out of money. Crush the social safety net and eliminate medical care in Trumpland, while improving those things in America, and see whose life expectancy is longer.

I don't want to live in the same country as all those stupid Trumper fucks, and I sure as shit don't want my state's tax dollars used to rescue them from the consequences of their idiocy.

They voted for less spending and they got it. They didn't realize how much they were getting in federal spending. That's what happens when you restrict yourself to a bias and  corrupt media, that tells you it's the other guys who are the idiots. When you're the idiot.

The concrete plant was stupid from the start.  It wasn't a concrete plant but instead a subsidized woke plant.

It isn't a concrete plant, except for the fact that it makes concrete.

Is this the town that Tom Petty sings about?

I would rather gargle moose urine than listen to a Tom Petty song, but I must say, this one seems germane to the topic.

Of course, I do wrack my brain trying to come up with any other song about Indiana or set there. Maybe something along the lines of "Dear God, get me out of here!"?

I have heard that Indianapolis offers lots of the usual big-city amenities without the usual attendant high prices. And it probably isn't as MAGA as the rest of the state. Weather sucks, though.
