Inside Trump’s Gulags For Children

Elian GOnzalez was a custody battle between his father and his aunt...because his mother died in the journey to America.  He was not sperated from his parents - he was reunited with his father.    Elian's father was not being held in custody in an immigration cell - he was at his home in Cuba.   And thats why you wont see a fake-media news outlet like the New York Times make that comparison - you have to cut and paste it from mouthbreather.com.

There is a law which requires the  seperation of  children from parents at the border.   it is mandated to be done during felony broder crossings - in other words people who already have a criminal record trying to re-enter the United States.  The difference between that policy and what Trump is doing now is he is applying this policy to everyone crossing the border (which is not required but voluntarily enacted by him and his crew of Brietbart shitkickers).

The fact that he is trying to blame someone else shows that even he understands the abhorrant nature of it.    He just cant take blame for his own policy...and his base is unable to blame him for his own policy.   See David Miller for exhibit A.

Apparently PJ has no use for the law - just make it up as he goes. This law, that Bill Clinton signed when President is not President Trump's law or policy. President Trump is enforcing the law. Don't like it, change the law. Until then, quit making up lies and accusing President Trump for seeing that this law is being enforced.

Why should people who sneak across our borders in violation of our laws be given special treatment, over those who are trying to enter legally?

Gulags...that's funny. Yea I saw pics of razor wire and armed guards holding these kids down. (sorry haven't read the thread yet, just the title and had to laugh.:)

tom’s special treatment = letting toddlers stay with their parents

nuff said.

"tom’s special treatment = letting toddlers stay with their parents" --- The children can stay with their parents on THEIR side of the border.  Enter the U.S. illegally and you will be subject to U.S. laws. How is this so difficult to understand?

I understand they get alot of support on this board.    par for the course.   Good luck in the midterms.

David Duke? LOL, C'mon PJ, you're better than that.

I am sewriously wondering about the mid terms, that's a pretty serious subject but one for a diff thread.

Also..very simple, break a law, inside or outside the border, your kid will be taken away. Isn't that as simple as a chocolate chip cookie? It's not difficult.

Some history:

The Obama administration saw families illegally crossing the border shoot up from 15,056 in 2013 to 68,684 in 2014 — an increase of 356 percent.

In response, the Obama administration detained families as a deterrent. The move appears to have worked as the numbers dipped in 2015 to 40,053 — still noticeably higher than historic levels.

[Some older history:

In 1997 as a result of a class action lawsuit on behalf of immigrant children who had been detained by the former Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) challenging procedures regarding the detention, treatment, and release of children, the Flores Settlement Agreement became law.

n.b. This agrrement only addressed unaccompanied illegal-immigrant children - NOT FAMILIES.

The Flores Settlement Agreement (Flores) imposed several obligations on the immigration authorities, which fall into three broad categories:

1.The government is required to release children from immigration detention without unnecessary delay to, in order of preference, parents, other adult relatives, or licensed programs willing to accept custody.

2.If a suitable placement is not immediately available, the government is obligated to place children in the “least restrictive” setting appropriate to their age and any special needs.

3. The government must implement standards relating to the care and treatment of children in immigration detention.

On July 6, 2016 the Ninth Circuit held that the Flores settlement agreement applies both to minors who are accompanied and unaccompanied by their parents, and that the lower court correctly refused to amend the agreement to accommodate family detention. ]

Back to the story:

The 9th Circuit’s ruling in 2016 meant the government would now have to separate families if it held parents who crossed the border illegally. The Obama administration’s response was instead to release families with children. The policy resulted in virtual open borders for illegal immigrants with children. The decision caused family units crossing the border to skyrocket to a high of 77,857 in 2016. Family unit apprehensions stayed at historically high levels in 2017 with 75,802 families detained — an appalling 403 percent increase from levels in 2013.

President Trump, as well as poor old DonDiego, opposes an open southern border.  Democrats not so much.  The President is doing his best to prevent illegal immigration. Perhaps legislation that is part of a broader immigration bill could allow families to remain in holding while their asylum claims are being processed.

But the Democrats are uninterested in addressing the problem. Instead the Democrats cite Christianity to attack their opponents and make comparisons to Nazi Death Camps and the Holocaust.  [One can tell the Democrats are up to no good when they cite Christianity.]

Snopes weighs in on the claims the Trump administration is just following the law regarding separating families.  Warning...right wingers likely will not enjoy their fact checking conclusion.  Pretty much reiterates my post at the top of this page
