Intresting Real Life Political Conversation

I usually spend part of my Sundays visiting with my folks that are in their 80s.

My mom is still healthy enough to get around. She has a group of women she has been playing cards with for the last 20 years or so. They started out as a group of 12 when they were in their 60s.  They are down to a group of 4 now. There are two Democrats and two Republicans and their agreement is to not talk about politics.

My mom told me something intresting had happened in that weeks game. She said one of the Republican women out of the blue sighed and said I can't do it this time.

She went on to add I can't vote for Trump again. He is just a horrible person and he is so vulgar that I have to turn off the TV when he comes on because I don't want the grandkids to hear what he is saying.

This is coming from a lady that is the matriarch of a large family with decades of Republican Party activism.

There is hope out there that not all Republicans are a lost cause.

Yeah, it never was a case of 100% MAGA, but the percentage of apostates is still disappointingly low. You'd think that Trump's demeanor and behavior would repel large swaths of the Republican electorate. There's no evidence that that's happened.

That said, there might be a fair number of renegades who say they are Trumpers when among their Trumper friends, or even when answering polls, but plan to not vote for him, even if they don't vote for Harris, either.

Even if our democracy survives this election, we're still in trouble. A major portion of our population believes nonsensical conspiracy theories and slavishly adores one of the worst human beings ever to walk the earth. Getting rid of him won't really solve that basic problem.
