I'm leaving to have a cocktail with an employed college buddy who's in from San Diego.  I'm guessing that Kevin doesn't have many suched employed friends.  My friend, Dave, prepared for life.

I have many friends, some of whom are successful, some of whom are surviving, and some of whom are struggling. However, unlike you, I do not consider the last group to be hopeless scum, unworthy of consideration, compassion, or assistance.

I don't know what "prepared for life" really means in Boiler Land but in my world, it means having learned to be considerate of and compassionate to others. Boilerman is clearly not prepared for life.

"Prepared for life" means that you don't need assistance from others.  It means that you made yourself valuable enough to employers that you can make a viable living.  I don't understand the confusion.

No one never needs assistance from others. That includes people who under normal circumstances, "make a viable living." There are hundreds of ways such a person could wind up needing help.

The difference between you and me is that I don't view someone who needs help as a failure or unworthy.

I know you don't understand. Your worldview is twisted and distorted. I hope you're true to that view--if you're in a car accident, you should refuse the services of the fire department or ambulance crew--because needing help means you're unworthy. If you lose your job, that's obviously all your fault, so you should use up your savings and then starve to death, like a good Con.
