Obama was referred to as "the one", "the chosen one", "the second coming", "the messiah", and Newsweek had a photo of Obama on its cover showing him with a halo. The left has a short memory.
I think the distinction is that while a few of his fans referred to him that way Obama never referred to himself that way.
