This is apparently how it works in Alabama. A large Klan of right-wing Christians opposes having to show an ID to vote as they believe a modern ID used in facial recognition programs, specifically the Real ID, is the mark of the beast.
The Klan head is brother to the current chairman of the Republican party in Alabama. The Alabama Secretary of State personally intervened and granted the klan members in question an exemption to having to show an ID to vote even though by law there is no such exemption in the voter ID statute. Poll workers that have asked for IDs as required by law from members of this Klan have been fired for not allowing them to vote without ID.
Laws don't apply to you if you are a white conservative Christian. I wonder what would happen if a group of African Americans showed up to vote and demanded to vote without an ID because of their religious beliefs?
