It's not about guns. It's about sin and evil.

Pretty clear to anyone with average reading comprehension skills.

People who have guns are sinful and evil.

There are millions of peaceful gun owners in the world. As to what is "sinful", I will leave that question to the religious.

What is the purpose of a gun?

To kill people.

Why would you own a gun?

Because you think that at some point, you will want to kill someone.

Any horsecrap about "safety"-- two people are in an argument. Neither of them has a gun. How many of them will die? Zero. Both of them have a gun. How many will die?

Here is the REAL bottom line -- There are many reasons cited for owning a gun, and the topic is part of a complex and ongoing debate. The motivations range from self-defense to recreational activities, constitutional rights, and personal identity. Self-defense and protection Personal security: The most common reason cited by gun owners is to protect themselves, their family, and their property from criminals. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has acknowledged estimates that firearms are used defensively hundreds of thousands to millions of times annually. Deterrence: Some believe that the presence of a gun in the home can act as a deterrent to potential intruders and that an armed citizenry deters crime. Rural protection: In rural areas, guns are sometimes kept for protection against wild animals in addition to human threats. Response time: Proponents argue that a gun allows a person to defend themselves immediately, rather than waiting for law enforcement to arrive Constitutional and political reasons Second Amendment rights: The U.S. Constitution's Second Amendment is widely cited by gun owners. The Supreme Court has affirmed that this amendment guarantees an individual's right to possess a firearm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense. Freedom and identity: Many gun owners associate their right to own guns with their personal sense of freedom and feel that it is an essential liberty. Defense against tyranny: In some cases, gun ownership is cited as a final check against a potentially overreaching or tyrannical government.

Hopefully zero. Millions of arguments take place among armed people everyday and don't result in violence.

Edit: I don't think most people who carry guns want to kill anyone. They may need to sometime to preserve the life of another, but that doesn't mean they desire it.

It's about a) manhood and b) gun fetishism. Why is one of the most iconic "hero" characters the steel-jawed, laconic gunman who can shoot eight people simultaneously? Because it gives people erections to watch.

Australia used to have the same gun fetishism we do. They had the guts to ban gun ownership. Now, their violent death rate is 1/12 that of ours. And nobody there feels "unsafe."

BTW the Second Amendment only grants a collective right to form a militia.

But we're never going to address this issue rationally as a nation, so, Wild Wild West it is and always shall be. With the attendant bleeding and dying.
