Judge Jeanine Strikes Out Again

I think it would be easier for MAGA just to say, "It's not fair!" in a high whiny voice than to lay out a case for everyone being biased against them. It's just as effective.

The other shorthand available to MAGA is, "They did it first!", when MAGA does something that they can't defend, but the liberals have also done it in the past. As an example, MAGA can whine about liberal cancel culture, and then do it themselves.

Both phrases will save you guys a lot of time, and be as convincing to MAGA and the liberals as any long explanation.

Odd, why would the citizens of DC hold a grudge against the Trump administration?

It's a mystery..yup..

I'd rather employ a low, sequestered whiny voice if its OK with you..

I'm cool with that, just looking to save you fellas some  time. We all know the excuses by now.

Thoughts on record beef prices? I know you were concerned about input prices during the Biden administration.

HORRIBUL INFLAYSHUN WUZ ALL BIDENZ FAWLT and meant that our economy was surely doomed. Then came those awful Biden hurricanes and Biden earthquakes. I burned my grilled cheese sandwich, all because of Biden.

Now, we're sliding into crippling inflation and entire sectors of our economy are going into the shitter, but our MAGAs assure us that it's only a "bump" and all will be roses, rainbows and bunnies on Day One. Well, in six months. OK, by the end of the year.

We'll see.

There's multiplicative reasons for record beef prices but the main and broad reason for these falls under the old supply and demand rules ( demand is outstripping supply and driving prices upward). Major contributing factors under that umbrella include the smallest number of beef cattle and herds( low inventories) since the 1960's. Drought conditions nationwide ( particularly in the west) have contributed to that reduced national live cattle supply. Further, higher costs of production/ doing business throughout the supply chain including meat processors, grocery stores, restaurants, and fast food joints have contributed to overall costs of this commodity for the end consumer. Plus the inherent biology involved in producing an end product (meat) in the cattle business takes over two years from conception to packaged product. When interest rates are highthat's not a good thing. Then there's high grain costs, interest rates, and either real, anticipated, or jump--through-your-own-ass concerns about current or future tariff effects.

The forecast isn't good, either..these prices are expected to rise further until supply inventories and other factors coalesce to drive prices the other direction. Despite all those distractions, beef demand remains robust generally speaking. I'd still rather eat a burger or steak than chicken or kale, though. If beef prices continue to increase, the consumer will just adjust as they need to..like they've always done with most commodities.

I don't recall whining too much about beef price inputs here previously, but I might've. I most certainly did whine about government overspending including Biden but I included my own side in that long standing debacle; that's just part of the old archaic conservative dogma / mantra game. All those peckerwood politicians are accomplished at spending beyond their means.

That's more than you asked for but..there it is. Make some medicine.

That's really funny. When Biden was in office, you posted that input prices were causing beef prices to rise, claiming that lower fuel prices would be a driving force to bring down prices. I brought up the small population of beef cattle and draught as a major cause. You eventually grudgingly admitted that it was part of the reason.

So, I didn't argue with you in the end? I missed an opportunity, then?  I doubt that I argued with you for very long about those particular contributing factors as they are ubiquitous...either that or I'm suffering from selective memory to cover my own ass. shrugs

Input prices did and are causing price increases, and fuel prices are a big cost factor behind beef production. Diesel for tractors, gas & diesel to transport livestock and the grain/ other feedstuffs to finish them and the end products, additional farm fuel costs to run harvesting equipment. High fuel costs don't improve consumer confidence either..which might make them spend less on beef products. You don't really believe that lowering fuel costs wouldn't eventually  benefit overall beef pricing for consumers, do ya? I'm sure I did support lower fuel prices as a factor contributing to lower beef product pricing over time. I'll accept that charge..and call my lawyer Bruce Hammer.

I think it's really funny how your go-to reason for high beef prices has shifted in just 9 months.

Bah humbug right back atcha. Yeah, I get it..I get your approach.  No worries..we've already experienced a 25-35%( at minimum) jump in overall retail beef prices under your current  liberal / progressive administration and policies; that increase also involves a huge increase in borrowing / lending interest rates , with most sectors of the beef industry dependent on operating loans to conduct business.

Almost everything I've read on beef prices points to widespread drought and a lower cattle population due to the high feed cost, which is causing ranchers to send more heifers to slaughter.

It's true..inventories are way down ( the supply side of demand). The reasons for that are multiplicative; but interest rates and feed costs are a big part of it. Virtually all retail pricing for most commodities increased the last four years. I'm not arguing with you about govt. spending's influence on retail pricing. The money supply affects everything. I think it's a factor..believe what you want.

Covid responses affected everything, granted. Trump spent more than he should have in the previous term, granted. A big part of the government overspend is what they spent it on..specifically. There are factors outside the current admins influence, but they also contributed to the balooned money supply. The money supply drove up retail pricing for most everything, including most  beef market sectors who routinely operate on borrowed monies. Elevated interest rates affected almost all markets, too.

There are lots of variables that go into the price of beef.  And not all of them are at the fault of the US President.

Here's a big one that is:   The new, ridiculous tariff put on the country of Brazil which by Trump's own public admission has nothing to do with economics.   He's upset that Brazil held their Jan 6 people accountable for their attempted coup.

Brazil imports over 150 million pounds of Beef to the United States EVERY MONTH.

Do you know how much it gets tariffed ?   Answer:   76%      (Thats a direct 50% tariff on the beef itself which is on top of the 26% universal tariff we have with that country.)

Sorry, Charlie.   Thats not supply and demand.
