Kaepernick Workout Produces a Tryout with the Cleveland Browns

Kapernick is actually 32 not 31.  So next year he will be 33. Prior to this mess ESPN in 2015 & 2016 ranked kapernick in the bottom third of QBs. So 3 years later he will be older & slower. No real incentive to hire a below average qb & his prima donna workout didn't help his cause.

Speculation is that the workout had more to do with his Nike contract, than actually playing.

I uncovered the reason why Kaepernick is being attacked again. There's a Republican running for California's 8th District and he's made depicting Kaepernick as unpatriotic the central theme of his campaign. Thus, it's all Fox News (even worse than fake news).

Particularly ironic since Kaepernick is being shredded for doing that most American of actions--exercising his right to free speech.

Sure, blame the the Republicans. The fact that he is an aging below average QB has nothing to do with it.

The fact that he dared to call out white America for its systematic racism has everything to do with it.

If you look at the asshole Republican in question's campaign ads, he has formed his whole message around attacking Kaepernick as a traitor and yes, an uppity black man. For exercising his right to express his opinion. How Republicans HATE it when the inferior classes dare to open their mouths.

Also, a quarterback that took his team to two league championships and a Super Bowl is probably not "below average."

It was ESPN who 3 years ago ranked him in the lower third of NFL QBs 2 years in a row. In his last season he was an occasional starter on a 2-14 team.

Considering kevin doesn't know how many teams are in the NFL, his so called football knowledge is questionable.

Kap does not want to play, he wants to make money, even liberal Stephen Smith can see that. He will never play again, he wants to sell shoes and jerseys, not work 15 hours a day to be a NFL QB!!!!!!

Yes, Tom, but even those in the lower third are still NFL quarterbacks and start for NFL teams...right?

I find it hard to believe that there are no teams that would benefit from having him on the roster--even as just a backup QB. As I said, he has extensive NFL experience as a starter.

Anyway, we probably agree that it isn't his talent or lack thereof that is the issue. It's his outspokenness and the fact that the things he says make people uncomfortable.

Here's a quick evaluation of the process of setting up the workout, how things went, and low expectations for Keapernik getting a deal:

CBS Sports

My takeaway from the article is that the workout showed that he is still in excellent shape.

Therefore, the excuse that he's no longer NFL-capable doesn't fly. The NFL doesn't want him because of his outspokenness. I think there's still some chance that a team that lacks a decent QB (and there are several such teams) and/or has a terrible season will hire him for next year. After all, they could sign him for very little at this point. It wouldn't be much of a risk.

The political issues involved still have much greater weight than any consideration of his talent.

Poor old DonDiego suggests that the CBS Sports link he provided earlier suggests that Mr. Kaepernik's disapproval of the league's selected location and "terms" established for the workout, . . . and its subsequent relocation, may well have resulted in the significant reduction in the planned/expected teams attending, . . . from 25 to 8.

Not a productive strategy, for someone who's looking for a job.

From the earlier link:

"The workout was supposed to be held at the Falcons practice facility in Flowery Branch, GA, but Kaepernik's camp called an audible and moved the workout to a local high school after they didn't approve of the terms that the league had set for the workout.  Apparently the NFL wanted Kaepernik to sign an "unusual liability waiver" which was different than the standard liability waiver that most players sign before an NFL workout.

A total of 25 teams were expected to have a representative at the workout, but after Kaepernik's team switched the location, only eight teams ended up making an appearance.  Although he ended up working out in front of a smaller audience  than he expected, Kaepernik still had a solid day."
