Kaepernick Workout Produces a Tryout with the Cleveland Browns

Let's set the record straight. Even if Tom's claim that Kap was in the second tier of starting QBs were true, a second-tier starting QB in the NFL still earns a shit ton of money. Kap replaced Alex Smith who all the experts agreed was better than Alex Smith. Prior to last season, the 33-year-old Alex Smith signed a four-year, $94 million contract guaranteed for $71 million dollars, so Kap is worth at least that much based upon talent. I note it is unlikely Smith will ever play again and he gets to keep the $71 million dollars for doing nothing.

Yes, after Harbaugh was fired in SF and the team cut all of its talent Kap's numbers went down, but QB's rarely do well without any surrounding talent and poor coaching.  After Harbaugh, there was an untested head coach who lasted one season and then Chip Kelly who also lasted only one season.

But let's go even further, let's say Kap is just a top tier backup. 37-year-old Ryan Fitzpatrick got an $11 million contract from Miami at the start of this season. Nobody with a lick of sense would say a 37-year old career journeyman QB has more talent than even a 32-year-old Kap.

The reason the NFL paid millions of dollars to make Kap go away, was because they didn't want their racist emails between some of their owners being made public which would have happened if the lawsuit would have gone on.

Apparently not.

Nope - they won't pay market value for him because he embarrassed them. Some of them were outed as racists.   I recall one owner publically saying something along the lines of slaves trying to run the plantation. Of course, we never got to see their private emails where they discussed these racial issues among themselves which is why Kap got millions of dollars for doing nothing. These rich old white guys (for the most part) don't want to be embarrassed again so they won't sign Kap.  If they are embarrassed again, the taxpayers might decide not to support those billionaire welfare queens anymore.

Market value is what the market is willing to pay.  The market for Kaepernick may be zero.  I have my fingers crossed.

I believe the quote that Marks addressed was something like "The inmates running the asylum."

Interesting--why are you so anti-Kaepernick? Are you offended by this uppity black man speaking out against racial injustice?

Umm, . . . but not for Colin Kaeperncik.

Wide Receiver Jordan Veasy - one of his wide receivers from Kaepernick's workout - earned an opportunity to tryout with the Cleveland Browns.

The Washington Redskins have signed Mr. Veasy to their practice squad.

The NFL isn't a free market. It is a monopoly subsidized by the taxpayers.

"Market value" implies that a market exists. In reality, the teams a player can play for is something that is rigidly controlled, starting with the NFL draft. A player can very rarely market himself as long as he "belongs" to a given team.

Kaepernick is a talented quarterback with Super Bowl experience. "The market" has established that such a player is worth several million dollars. But he can't even get a tryout--therefore, "the market" is a sham.

The NFL is a great example of how nasty old white men (and yes, a few nasty old white women as well) dominate an American industry.

I don't like Kaepernick because he protests against America's police.  Blacks are treated differently as a group by police because this groups acts differently.  Blacks as a group are a high violence risk group, thus this group gets more attention from police.  It's a shame that the good, law abiding black people get a "second look" from police when doing nothing wrong,  and blame for this should be placed on the bad actors and not the police.

Many people complained years ago when Tim Tebow couldn't find an NFL job.  I'm not certain why Mark and Kevin didn't find racist trends at that time.

When Tebow came to town, a team distracting circus followed.  While this was a different "circus" that Kaepernick brings, it was still a distracting circus.  No team wants a distracting circus, regardless if it's a circus promoting a hatred of police, or a circus promoting a love of God.
