Kaepernick Workout Produces a Tryout with the Cleveland Browns

I haven't watched Fox in maybe 20 years or more.  We have an excellent state-wide newspaper, one of the few real paper newspapers surviving (giving I Pads to subscribers to keep it going...most like the I Pad--still get a real Sunday paper for the coupons, I guess...not me).  The editorial pages contain views from, believe it or not, both sides, excellent writers.  The letters to the editor are 90% anti Trump, interestingly.  I actually apply what I read from you and Mark and Boilerman and Don and others to the front page news pieces and those editorial pieces (not the letters to the editor).  I learn a lot about what the issues actually are, why learned people believe what they believe.  All this informs my thinking.  Again, not disclosing WHAT I think at this time.  I occasionally tune in to HLN for the sports and weather and general interest stories.  I hate national TV news, all of it.  Hate NPR, hate CNN (though I know CNN is HLN's parent company.

Got to go.  Taking a 90 year old lady friend to the Christmas party at her assisted living place.  Can't wait to get out into the rush hour traffic...yikes!  If you never hear from me again I've been killed in a car wreck.

I can't figure the "Trump-style false equivalent arguement" slam at me...what the hell does that mean?  But don't look for an apology.

P.S. We have a black mayor (capital city) who recently defeated two white respected business men in his election.  I voted for him.  But not because he is black.  I liked his platform.

In a more enlightened society (which we're a loooooong way from becoming), a person's skin color shouldn't matter at all. Interestingly, there is one sub-sector of our society which is indeed color-blind: the military. It's also gender-blind. A soldier/sailor/etc. is evaluated strictly on his/her merits and performance. I respect the military for that, and I believe it became that way as the result of a direct order from Truman. Don't know the exact history there.

Another interesting national-scale example is Brazil. Everyone's some kind of hybrid of white, black, Native American, Inuit, Chinese, Martian, whatever. It's impossible to have race hatred there because whatever race someone else is, it's your race as well. Therefore, everyone treats everyone else as...people. What a refreshingly original concept!!!

From a historical perspective, we're one of the most racist countries on earth because we were one of the very, very last to eliminate slavery. That black slaves had to be ripped away from their former owners, in the course of an extremely bloody war, fostered a LOT of resentment in the South. Apparently, that resentment hasn't gone away. I was kind of hopeful that racism was fading, but then Trump got elected by running on a platform based on race hatred and fear of the "other"--which millions of people eagerly lapped up. The irony is that it was all based on a remark Trump pulled out of his ass at a campaign rally. It wasn't planned at all, and he was probably surprised when all those people in his audience orgasmed.

Even though you hate national news networks, I would encourage you to watch NPR. Though everybody thinks it's "all liberals," in reality, it's much more objective than any of the news outlets that depend on pleasing a given political group to get paid. It might be the only available objective source of news as the impeachment process drags on. (And yes, I include CNN and MSNBC along with Foxy Loxy News as biased sources.)

You show a fundamental misunderstanding of the concept. No one ever said that we are all equal--as in, identical. The way we are equal is that each and every one of us has the same rights and is entitled to be treated the same way by society and the law. I actually doubt that you're so dense as to not realize the distinction between "identical" and "equal."

In terms of civil and human rights, black people are equal to white people (and brown people, and red people...). This concept is codified in our laws. Therefore, if you treat black people differently (as in, usually, worse), or you think of them/regard them as inferior--or conversely, treat white people better or think of them/regard them as superior--then you're not just stupidly wrong; you're breaking the law.

So when cops execute unarmed black people, and you stand on the sidelines and applaud, both you and the cops are breaking the most fundamental laws of this country.

I treat everyone well unless I have a specific reason not to.  To not recognize that certain groups are more or less likely to commit crimes, or to value education, and to have children out of wedlock is downright stupid.  There's a good reason why law enforcement profiles people.

Stating facts and acting accordingly is not racism.

Once again Kevin is wrong.

Elias Monk found that 1 unit of darkness corresponds to a 26% lower chance of a student of receiving more education than lighter skinned students.

Black & multiracial Brazilians have a higher rate of illiteracy, less degrees, lower life expectancy, higher unemployment, lower income & higher homicide rates

And to impute those differences to inherent racial qualities is bigoted, and stupid.

You might consider that blacks, due to the social history of the race in this country, are generally poorer than whites--and that crime happens more often in low-income communities.

I dispute your racist asshole contention that black people value education less than white people. Prove it! And not using some shit from Sean Hannity, either.

I don't burst into moral outrage at people "having children out of wedlock," so I won't bother to discuss that.

Profiling, o ignorant one, IS racism. It is, in fact, the very definition of it--regarding and treating another person differently solely because of their race. "Black, I shoot, white, I yell "hands up" is racial profiling and NOT acceptable.

You should be ashamed of yourself.

Where? In what context? What is a "unit of darkness"? Is it a scientifically agreed-upon measure?

If some guy wrote an article that disagrees with what I said, that doesn't make me wrong. You LOOOOOVE to cherry-pick from the internet. You are also very, very eager to prove your Trump-love. You're a racist as well.

You're also not realizing that I said that race relations are different in Brazil, not that there aren't any differences in socioeconomic factors among the various races. You're referencing some obscure internet wingnut to try to refute something I never said in the first place.

Stop being an idiot, you're embarrassing yourself.

Criminal profiling is the same as consumer demographic marketing.

If a group exhibits certain purchasing characteristics, they are then marketed to them

If a demo group exhibits a likelihood of committing a crime, then the police should monitor them more in order to protect the law abiding public.

Kevin, you are the problem.  How the hell do you fix a problem that you refuse to recognize.  The problem is that in the black community, it's culturally acceptable to have children out of wedlock.  Its acceptable to have children without the money to support the children.  It's acceptable to be uneducated.  Kevin, and those like Kevin don't even recognize these issues, so the black community plods alongs and the problems expand.

Nice job, Kevin.  You support horrible behavior by you willingness to ignore it.  And who's hurt most by this Liberal policy.  The black man.  And who's the racist?

God, what scummy bigotry. All of the things you mentioned happen and are accepted in white communities as well.

You're a racist and a liar.

These things are not accepted in my community.  You must live in a horrible place, Kevin.
