(Q) What happens when Kentucky votes for politiicans who joke about Canada being the 51st state.....and impose trade wars?

(A) The only product that remotely provides Kentucky with a legitimate economy collapses.

You get what you vote for.   Sad.

The next surprise-that-shouldn't-be-a-surprise is when the shitkickers get their Medicaid and SNAP benefits slashed.

As far as the whiskey goes, I wouldn't necessarily expect them to know how much their economy depends on selling their moonshine to Canada. So when Trump started bellowing, they were laughing and thigh-slapping instead of going, "Oh, shit!"

It should be noted, that of the four companies that were mentioned who filed for bankruptcy, one went bankrupt under Biden, one went bankrupt 10 weeks after opening, and one went bankrupt after being in business for a single week.  That said, the industry will struggle until tariffs are sorted out.  Tariff negotiations are needed badly, and I've said all along that there will be bumps.

Most Canadian businesses arent even shelving AMeircan spirits - and the ones that do are wasting space because the Canadian public is doing the same thing MAGA did with Bud Light 2 years ago.     And thats 100% due to "51st state" rhetoric from our president.   Has nothing to do with tariffs.

I'm pretty sure most MAGA voters in Kentucky werent expecting or demanding this kind of relationship with our biggest importer of bourbon.

There will be bumps, as with any change. Continuing on the old path waa certain doom.

Inuslting people isnt a change.   Its just stupid.   And it has consequences as this thread proves.

18 people dying every August in DC is insulting.  Finally, a new sherrif is in town.

Boilerboob approves of Trump's behavior. No one else does.

The Democratic party has to hammer away on this theme. "You got what you voted for." Will it swing dead-red super-stupid Dumbtucky? Probably not. But it will give a lot of MAGAs something to think about.

Keep swinging and striking out.  Your stance that crime doesn't matter is working well.  Keep bleeding the urban voter!

Our Liberals only read stories about the nuts complaining , because their news sources insulate Democrats from the truth.  Keep it up!

Not a mention in the article about the Covid and Post-Covid ramp up, the insane pricing by distillers and distributors, not to mention massive retail mark up on high demand bottles and over production of barrels.

The whiskey industry isn't moved in months, i.e. since Trump came to office, these are things in the making (distilling, bottling, barreling and distribution) that take years and sometime a decade to come to head.

People are sick of the 'hunt' for unicorns, tired of over priced alcohol, and no longer wish to pay premium for anything in this category.  There are so many bottles under $50 that are good quality and a reasonable price that they no longer want bespoke liquor.

So while the article may have some good points, it's not something that can be attributed to just a couple of months.  I rate it a 3 of 10.
