Las Vegas Coronavirus Shutdown

You don't know that. We DO know that overwhelmed medical facilities are unable to treat people who would normally have survived.

Fortunately, it's not an either-or choice. We can incentivize socially responsible behavior by assuring people that they'll receive financial assistance.

By the way, the coronavirus relief package's cost is very close to the amount of the Trump deficit that was caused by his corporate tax breaks. In a very real sense, we've already given them a handout. I'm not impressed if they somehow need another one to survive one quarter. Maybe our bigly wonderful economy was never all that great.

Kevin, I trust that you're talking about the tax break that paid for itself.

They are getting $600 a week, whatever state unemployment benefits they get and $1200 in Donny Dollars. I think most of them will be ok for the next 4 months.

I'm addressing the economy.  When unemployment is sky high, when wages decrease, when the free shit ends, that's when it'll hit the fan.

The article that Kevin linked us to started out with the story of the barber shop owner facing the closures.

That's just ridiculous. I know conservatives like to say that happens. So logically, we should reduce all taxes to zero!

Show us some hard data that support your contention, and I don't mean a Fox News segment.

Anyone living and working/running a business in Vegas the last few years should have been able to put aside enough money to ride this out. It was big bucks for everyone for a decade. Now people are freaking out because their businesses have slowed down for what, two weeks?

I am much more sympathetic to the plight of people in economically distressed areas who live paycheck to paycheck. In Vegas, though, that means that every Friday, you cash your paycheck at a local casino, and every Saturday morning, you're broke again. Lather, rinse, repeat.

The smartest people I met in Vegas were those who worked hard for three or four years, saved up, stayed out of the goddamn casinos, and took their stash and moved back to civilization.

It still amazes me that someone who hates gambling & Vegas so much spends 24/7 on a Vegas site.
