In general, speaking honestly as an adult often requires one to pay a high price.  Speaking honestly as a Republican elected offical, means the price you pay is complete cancelation.

Republicans simply don't want to hear the truth on matters of any substance. Conservatives would rather live in a world of more and more elaborate lies and conduct themselves dishonesty than a world of truth and conduct themselves honestly.

Success in the modern day Republican party is defined by who can spin the most elaborate yarn.

Cheney voted with the conservatives in Congress 93% of the time, way more than her replacement in the GOP leadership, Elise Stefanik. But she refused to pledge allegiance to the Leader.

She is running for President now. If she runs as a Republican she will be able to batter Trump in the primary debates and if she runs as an Independent she could guarantee a Republican loss by peeling off just 2 to 3 percent of Republican voters.
