I just finished tallying my results for 2024 on an advantage play video poker opportunity I stumbled upon in March of 2023, combined with some slot vulturing and an online sportsbook offer I found.
I’m not a sports bettor but I make the minimum bets required, taking big favorites on moneyline bets to collect casino cash and free bets. I don’t include Vegas trips in my results because I use my gambling bankroll locally, and use vacation funds for Vegas, although that doesn’t mean I’m not looking for good opportunities when playing in Vegas, I’m just much stricter playing locally.
In 2024 I made 51 visits to the local casinos, playing 98,687 hands of video poker, which equals $246,717 run through the machines. I calculate a 100.7% advantage, although on average it’s probably higher, if I’m getting crushed on a session I’ll sometimes quit before reaching my max play number.
I've hit 2 Royal Flushes this year, based on the number of hands I played, on average I should have had 2.45 Royals, so about on average. I didn't hit any Royals in 2023, I had a 13-month Royal drought, which was rough. Going back to March 2023, I've played 192,123 hands, which on average I would expect to have had 4.75 Royals, I'm hoping the average starts working in my favor! In contrast, my wife, playing the same amount as me has had 7 Royals, sometimes that can piss me off. (just kidding or maybe not).
For the year I won $1,256, received $3,180 in comps, and $4,930 in free play. I earned two 3-night hotel comps in Vegas, and I’m on pace for a free cruise comp spring of next year, my wife will also earn a free cruise comp.
So far, it’s working out pretty well!
