Lowest number of new Covid cases in Southern Nevada since March, 2020

It's probably even better than that since the testing two years ago was kind of primitive. I think that's something to celebrate.  https://covid.southernnevadahealthdistrict.org/cases/

That's because millions caught Omicron in December.  Covid finally infected enough for herd immunity as it was destined to from day 1.  Yay!  Time to get back to normal.  15 days to flatten the curve is all it took.

The spurious objective of "herd immunity" cost hundreds of thousands of lives. The trouble with allowing a virus to propagate unchecked is that it will mutate, rendering so-called herd immunity worthless.

If we hadn't had such a cavalier approach to public safety, the variants might not have cropped up and wouldn't have spread so widely if they did. The current "hooray, it's over" narrative is creating the perfect environment for the virus to make a big comeback.

But hey, what's a few thousand more deaths as long as the casinos are making as much moolah as possible, right?

Just follow the science.  There was absolutely nothing new done to 'check' the spread between December/January when Nevada had a record number of new cases and today when there was a record low except a lot of people got Covid.  Of couse Omicron was highly transmissible (for vaccinated and unvaccinated) and relatively mild so basically we got lucky with Omicron.

"Widespread societal resistance to COVID-19 is the main route out of the epidemic," the ministry said in a statement, citing infectious disease authorities.

"To achieve this, as many people as possible need to be infected with the virus as the vaccines are not enough, even though they provide good protection against serious illness," it added.

Time to move on from Covid and treat it just like flu.

Treat it like the flu? Maybe, but it's probably more akin to smoking. After all, people who make bad health decisions - as in no vaccine - are dying at about 40 times the rate of sensible, boosted, people.

And I have no problem with that.

Maybe we agree on something then.  30-50,000 Americans a year die from the flu and unlike Omicron and the Covid Vaccine, the flu shots actually reduce the risk of contracting flu.  But we don't mandate the flu vaccine.  We don't unscientifically mask the kids to prevent the spread of flu.   Time to get back to normal.  Covid is now endemic.

Cloth masks are useless, paper masks only slightly better.  N95 masks (if you can get one) are better IF worn properly.

We contiinue to mask children even though they are at little risk for contracting or spreading.

I'm glad to see the virus subsiding too but its nothing like the flu.   THe flu does not overwhelm our hospitals, emergency rooms, and healthcare workers.

I'm much more concerened about the health and mental state of our nurses than the unvaxed patients they took care of.   People who tax our healthcare system (not to mention our economy) to that degree should be penalized.

Pardon me while I knock this out of the park.

"Florida Health News?" Which you never ever heard of until a few moments ago.

And the "Johns Hopkins" study referenced? It has nothing to do with their medical school. NOTHING,

And the study wasn't submitted to a peer-reviewed journal, which is what you do when your study won't stand up to peer review.

And it was written by an employee of the right-wing Cato Institute, and some of his students.

Other than that, tom, thanks for sharing.

As usual for MP, a foul pop to the catcher.

The story was posted on numerous news sites, so what difference does it make which one I used.

The Hopkins study reviewed numerous other peer reviewed studies on the mitigation measures to come to their conclusion.  It has yet to be challenged.

And it was written by an employee of the right-wing Cato Institute, and some of his students. What are you referring to?
