Not sure about that article's accuracy.  I don't recall the price of gas being under $3.00 in a long, long time, longer ago than January 2021.  Just sayin'.

And it's worthless data, because gasoline prices have always varied dramatically by area. For example, right now, gas is between $4.89 and $6 a gallon in San Diego and between $3.24 and $4 in Albuquerque. It's between $2.84 and $3.75 in Jackson, Mississippi. So if you ask "What's the price of gas in the US?", the question is unanswerable without asking, "Where in the US?"

So, Candy, the price of gas is under $3 in some locations right now, so we can assume that has been the case for the last decade or so, at least.

This tells us that the great majority of Americans are paying $1.50/gallon more than in January 2021.  This $1.50 costs Americans a $560,000,000 premium EACH DAY!

Every city is up about $1.50/gallon, which is great and eye opening data, yet uncompredendable to Kevin.
