Maduro - My How Things Have Changed

In less than 24 hours his whole world has gone from dictator to convict. Venezuela rejoices and the rightfully elected President is on her way home to take office. Meanwhile, the likely suspects here in the Sink bemoan and criticize what has happened, always finding reason to complain as they focus their TDS on President Trump instead of praising the removal of the murderous Maduro and his illegal drug regime. I await the DemocRAT responses, which will probably mirror the comments of the TDS infected morons who are posting here today. When the dust settles and all of the bullshit has been spread, 2 things will be apparent - (1) Venezuela and Venezuelans will have the opportunity to regain their once great world standing as a free, wealthy nation and (2) the world as a whole is safer and stronger because of President Trump and the Republican governance.

I would just like to point out that a US-led military mission to restore power to the democratically elected leader of another country is something that could be done morally, legally, and constitutionally.

The condemnation of certain actions is not necessarily a condemnation of the motivations behind those actions.

iF and ONLY if such an action was BOTH instigated and approved by Congress. The President heads the executive branch. Therefore, his job is to execute and enforce existing law and policy, not create it.

I think that would still be on shaky moral if not legal ground, though. What gives us the right to intervene by force in another country's internal affairs? Surely you can see the slippery slope here that has in fact resulted in the many US incursions that you mentioned. Paste a FREEDOM or a JUSTICE label on it and it becomes morally justified.

And ..the ultimate morality of Trump's invasion will be determined by whether he withdraws our troops and allows a democratic Venuzuela to conduct its own affairs, now that Maduro is outta there. But Trump has announced that he will do the exact opposite and appoint himself Lord High Protector of Venezuela, while systematically looting their resources.

I would like to point that Maduro was not the democratically elected leader of Venezuela - In 2023, Machado won the opposition primary to become the unity candidate for the 2024 presidential election.[2] The Venezuelan government subsequently barred her from running in the election.[3][4][5] She named Corina Yoris as a replacement candidate, who was later replaced by Edmundo González. The opposition presented vote tallies that showed González winning the July 2024 election in a landslide, while the government-run National Electoral Council declared victory for Maduro without presenting evidence

The morality or wiseness of such an action is definitely questionable and debatable. I probably should not have included the word "morally" and kept it to "legal and constitutional".

The main point I was making is that there is a legal and constitutional way to do it. As I implied and you clarified, Congress has the power to declare war. The president executes that war once Congress has declared it.

Whether or not I would personally support such a mission would depend on the totality of the circumstance. I just feel like before  the government even considers doing something, it should demonstrate its constitutionality first. Then we can have the debate on whether or not it's a good idea.

I'm unsure what that has to do with the question of constitutionality. Even at the invitation of the country's legitimate government, The executive still needs Congressional approval before it can conduct any military actions.

Our resident MAGA morons are tap-dancing around that question. Stupid Miller is actually claiming that because a country's leader wasn't democratically elected, that gives Trump the right to invade that country and kidnap him. Unbelievable!

Even if he WAS invited--thats a lie, but whatever--he still needs Congressional permission. Whatever pretext he may come up with, he still needs Congressional permission. Whatever events may occur, he still needs Congressional permission.

Let us know if that ever sinks in.
