Markets/tariffs

Wondering what others thoughts are on any of this. To me it seems like nothing more than a game of chicken. China DID come to the table but DT keeps pushing...makes me wonder how far he can go. I know the man knows how to deal but ,really, how far can you push someone? While I know we're both dependent on each other, China is far and away more dependent on the US. Anyhoo, like to hear any input if anyone has any on the subject. It;s not affecting me too much, just curiousity. I know there used to be some pretty savvy folks on here marketwise.

Past administrations have laid down and let China, Mexico, Canada and other countries take advantage of the U. S. in trading. President Trump is letting the world know that the U. S. will be treated fairly from now on. All of this will benefit all Americans now and in the future. No more apoligizing - no more cowing down. Enough is enough.

It’s hard to weigh in given Trump’s history of making threats and then backing off.     I’m all for getting tough with countries that have been abusing trade for decades.   It’s probably good for American workers...bad for American stocks and probably higher prices for consumers.

i won’t pre-judge his efforts.    But I am nervous that he is basing decisions on his ego instead of common sense.   We might end up building a wall with Canada just because trudeau hurt his feelings.

Hmm..ego VS common sense, Well we all know the man has an EGO beyond belief so it makes me extremely nervous. A wall with Canada. LOL! I'm most worried about the China card and the NK card which is also a wild card at the moment IMO and who knows how this will all play out.I don't think the Chinese are backing down that easy, we'll see.

Maybe the Chinese will quit buying our debt? I wonder what would happen then.

Common liberal misconception is that China holds most of our debt. China is the largest holder of debt, but it is only $1t.
