Mask wearing observations

Last Saturday,  I was detoured from a casino to respond to an emergency at my daughters house.  my 14 year old grandson had badly dislocated his knee cap.  The first responders, nine that I counted, not one was wearing a mask. The boy is fine now.  Surprisingly, It was an emergency room female Doctor, of very small stature, maybe weighing a 100 lbs. relocated his knee cap.  I was impressed.

But I digress, Mask wearing in the casinos is hit and miss. Two are mandatory, but cannot be legally enforced. Some of the casinos are pretty lax about it.  I have asked several dealers, if any dealers have had covid,  Surprisingly, not one knows of any dealer who has contracted Covid.  Casino employees must wear masks.

I wear a mask.  I wish everyone would.  I firmly believe mask wearing can impede the spread of Covid.  Why people don't has me asking why.

I'll tell you why:

1. Some people are selfish assholes to the point where they won't even be mildly inconvenienced in order to look out for others.

2. Some people are brain-dead drooling idiots who don't comprehend the necessity to wear a mask.

3. Some people have, incredibly, adopted no-masking as a statement of political fealty to the Orange One.

4. Some people are willing to stretch the rules so that they can evade wearing a mask, such as when drinking or smoking, or being about to drink or smoke, or having had a drink or smoke within the previous hour.

So while the above categories overlap, there's a pretty good chance that any random bozo you encounter won't be wearing a mask, mandates, rules, laws, or policies be damned. It's the primary reason why the pandemic is not under control.

I'm ashamed to be an American, since we elected one of the worst human beings to ever walk the planet as President for God's sake, and we're now too stupid to keep ourselves safe and healthy.

Have done three casino trips, two to Harrah's Laughlin and one to Beau Rivage.  BR just last week.  Saw no person not wearing a mask.  At both places the staff are quick to notice masks that have drifted below the nose and ask the wearer to pull it up.  Never saw a player resist doing so or complain.

I prefer my mask stay way up over my nose and 'held' in place by my glasses.  Sometimes a mask doesn't fit the face as tightly as needed.  It takes wearing one a while to determine this.  I've culled from my 8 masks which ones I can wear comfortably without having to "pull it up."  I actually cut and re-sewed the ear loops on three of my masks to tighten them so they don't slip.  Work great after.  Yay me.

I wish I could figure out a way to keep my glasses from fogging up while I'm wearing a mask. There's no way, short of taping the upper edge of the mask to my face I suppose, to keep that from happening.

My only casino mask observations were during my trip to South Point in September. Mask compliance was maybe 70% for people walking around, and less than 50% for people sitting at the machines. The only other place I went was Emerald Island, where mask compliance was about 90%.

As far as "enforcement" goes, I never saw anyone admonished to wear their mask properly, even though many of the aforementioned 70% at South Point were doing the no-nose thing. I also never saw anyone sitting at a machine being told to pull their mask back up. Smokers were being allowed to basically not wear a mask at all.

I've been wondering whether non-Vegas casinos have been more, or less stringent about the rules than Vegas casinos. It's all too evident that how unsafe a casino environment is (it'll never be safe) depends largely on how thoroughly mask rules are enforced. I also strongly suspect that given the (idiotic) partisan divide over wearing masks, that casinos in dead-red states would be very unsafe. Someone needs to do a study on mask compliance nationwide, and not just in casinos.

Wipe the lenses down with rubbing alcohol periodically. It helps.

On any given day/occasion it seems like 50% of the people here aren't wearing masks. And I am right next door to one of the worst COVID outbreaks in the state. And people are assholes about it.  A lot of them will have a mask on in places that require it but pull it down, so it is hanging below their mouth/nose. A lot of them pull the old I don't have to wear a mask because I am eating/drinking and proceed to nurse a can of soda for 3 hours. It is a look me I am a conservative, so I don't have to follow the rules. Hopefully, Biden will put an end to the coddling of these idiots.

Fogging of the glasses is a problem.  Especially in certain weather (damp), when moving from inside to outside, etc.  I've thought of getting a new pair of glasses with bigger frames.   I see some folks whose frames do ride down over their mask pretty good.

I just bought a product called Fog Stopper.  Available at Walmart and Amazon (or so I'm told).  $16 for a 10 ml bottle, but I'm told just a little drop 'ill do ya.  Everyone in the MD's office said it works great.  I haven't tried it yet, will report back.

Rubbing alcohol has the same effect and it's roughly a $1 for 16oz.

You would think most Trump supporters would want to wear a mask as it would improve their looks.

I tried alcohol wipes, 100 for $8 and one of them good for both lenses. Thanks for the tip!
