Member poll regarding birth certificates and/or passports

If you would be kind enough to help I am curious about something. Please respond to the poll below.

How many have a valid passport book, passport card, or birth certificate handy? Please respond with the number that best describes your current situation.

1) I know right where one of those documents are and carry it with some regularity or have had hands on it recently.

2) I am confident I know where I have one of those documents  and could likely have it in hand in a day or two.

3) I think I know where it is but it's buried in the attic or storage etc and it might take me a while to find.

4) If I needed one of those documents I would probably have to order or renew one.

If your answer was 4 please respond with the best letter

a) I know the process of getting one of those documents and it would be easy for me to do so

b) I think getting one of those documents would be a pain in the butt for me to do.

c) I am unsure of the difficulty or ease it would take to obtain one of those documents

Edit:

If your current name does not match the document because of a name change do you have documentation of the name change such as a marriage license readily available?

(Thanks to Mark for pointing out I neglected to ask this)

Birth certificate, can put hands on it immediately but don't carry it with me.  I don't have a passport or card, never have.

Thank you for the response.

My birth certificate is immediately accessible.

I recently got a passport book and card. I carry the card when I fly.

Both my passport and birth certfificate are immediately accessible, and I have handled both recently.  Needed them for my German Citizenship application process.  I don't carry them unless I am traveling out of the country.

4) My birth certificate and passport were both stolen a couple of years ago. I haven't yet replaced them, because I haven't had any need for them until recently. I want to visit Canada this summer, and I also need "real ID" if I want to fly anywhere. So:

b) Pain in the butt. Pay $30 online and submit all sorts of documentation to get a copy of my birth certificate, even though birth certs are public records and in theory, anyone should be able to obtain anyone's birth certificate. Then pay the Oregon DMV $30 more to convert my DL to real ID.

The process will take at least six weeks. So, sixty bucks and a forever wait for bureaucracy. Pain in the ass, definitely.

And I have the time and resources to do that. I also have a mailing address. Many genuine true-blue American citizens don't.

I also have a passport card, which enables me to drive across the Canadian border, but it's expired and I need the birth cert to renew it. Plus, that renewal also takes six weeks to process. Plus $45.

Obtaining such documents should be easy and cheap. As of now, it's neither.

Are you allowed to retain your Ametican citizenship wenn du deutsche Stattsburger wirst? (Sorry for omission of the umlaut.)

Can you share with us why you're doing that? (I for one would be happy to become a citizen of a Western European nation and crumple up and throw away my American citizenship, but I'm assuming you have a specific reason vor ein Deutscher werden.)

You will need something additional, as the name on your birth certificate doesn't match your married name, and that is one of the big drawbacks, which will make it much harder for women to vote than men.

And secondly, the whole scheme is unconstitutional, full stop.  That should be the end of the debate. I am tired of MAGAs justifying Trump's lawlessness by saying things like what does it hurt? Isn't it a good thing?

I have been thinking about dual citizenship with Croatia.

I looked into Germany but I don't qualify.

Oh man that sucks you had everything stolen. Must be a huge pain in the butt.

If you renew your passport card you won't need to convert your driver's license. A passport card is a "real ID" for flying and access to federal buildings and such.

My driver's license isn't "real" but I use my passport card for that.

Good point. I should have included a question about marriage licenses or name changes. That is definitely an additional obstacle for some people.

For clarification I agree that the proposed legislation is likely unconstitutional and I assure you that justifying the law is not my intention. Also, I am certainly not "a MAGA".
