One does not need to be a US citizen to get a real ID DL. For instance, a Canadian citizen that is a lawful resident can get one.
Correct. The Real ID just verifies you are who you say your are, but nothing about citizenship. However, wasn't a birth certificate required, which would confirm citizenship (if born here, naturalization papers if not I suppose)?
I've renewed online after five years which was easy breezy. I guess they can dig a lot deeper than we know about when applying and renewing.
