MGM just purchased Empire City Casino in Yonkers NY for $850m.
It is currently operating as a racino with 5,000 slot machines and harness racing. Once the premier harness racing track in the country, harness racing is a shell of of it's former self. the racino itself is extremely profitable.
Empire city is a huge facility with almost 100 acres of property, with a huge parcel presently not being used. It is just north of NYC surrounded by 3 highways & nearby access to subways & commuter rail. If MGM gives up the harness racing it will have a huge property to develop for the largest potential gambling market in the US.
Licenses for table games might be available by 2022 as well as sports betting in the near future.
