MLB Baseball Opening Day

Today is opening day of MLB! What teams do you like? What predictions do you have for the MVP and Sigh Young awards? Rookie of the Year?

I am predicting the New York Yankees upset the Seattle Mariners in the World Series.

I used to be a huge baseball fan and still have a pretty good collection of vintage baseball cards.    Alas the steroid and union strike events of the 90's turned me off from the sport.    I couldn't even give you the name of 10 current players.

I am pretty sure the Yankees wont be meeting the Mariners in the WS....pretty sure they are both AMerican League teams.

I grew up a Cubs fan while living 35 miles NW of Chicago.  After school I spent 15 years in Cincinnati, and evolved to also became a Reds.  Those are my teams and it's going to be a long year, I'm afraid.

While I haven't talked with him for five years, I've known the Reds catcher, Tucker Barnhart, since he was a kid.  He's a mediocre offensive threat, but he can sure can get it done defensively..........winning his second Gold Glove last year.

I'm going with the Fordyce Redbugs to take it all.  Oh, wait, that would be high school.  Nevermind.

Let's not forget about the Scottsdale Community College Fighting Artichokes or the Hoopeston Cornjerkers!

The Posquamite Falls Angry Gerbils have been picked to win it all. Of course, they're a wiffle ball team.

I'm a SF Giants fan, which means I'm in for another season of suffering :(  But I'm hoping that maybe later this year, I can go see them lose in person.

Amazing what one can learn in the Kitchen Sink.  I had to look up both of these to be convinced they are real.  Love the story of how Artie Artichoke came to be the mascot.   Good stuff.

I also have a friend who graduated as a Pekin Chink (Pekin, Illiniois).  They are now known as the Pekin Dragons.

I have several friends who graduated as Spark Plugs.

I must admit to only have owned a "Fighting Artichocks" shirt.  I couldn't pass it up.

Don't forget about the University of California Santa Cruz Banana Slugs..............."No known preditor"!  A buddy of mine went to school there.

And there's the Frankfort Hot Dogs from Frankfort Indiana.

The Spark Plugs are about 1/2 mile from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.  The Hot Dogs are about 60 miles NW of Indy in Frankfort, IN.

Lot's of worthless, yet fun knickman trivia.

Haven't you heard? Conservatives have canceled MLB. Only liberals and independents are allowed to watch.
