Mom Day!

I think this may be the one commemorative/celebratory day that everyone loves and agrees upon. Whoever first floated the idea was a genius.

My mom spent the day at a gala moms-only performance of Puccini's La Boheme and La Traviata, her two favorite operas. Luxury box with her closest friends, complementary drink service, the best opera singers in the world, a magnificent orchestra and an angelic chorus.

I didn't attend because I wasn't invited: I'm not a mom, and I'm not dead. (Thus the angelic chorus.) But my mom sent me Instagram updates and told me she had a fabulous time. I asked her for a recording of the performance, but she told me it would be unavailable on Earth, because it would wipe out sales of all other opera CDs. I guess that's true.

How did your mom spend Mom Day?

This Mother's Day was a bit unusual as my daughter had her college graduation on Saturday at 6pm.  After the ceremony, we all went out to eat (it was late) at a Mexican restaurant near the college. I bought my mom's dinner.

The only thing she asked for is for me to clean up her car. My dad had been the one to maintain it before he passed and I don't believe my mom has ever washed a car in her life.  So on Sunday I spent 3 hours thoroughly cleaning her car inside and out. She was quite pleased with the result.

My mom lives in a different state. (About 2000 miles away)

I mailed a care package with some tea, chocolates, and a few other things from a store she likes but doesn't have near her.

I also had a bunch of flowers delivered to her.

Kevin, how nice for your mom, the gala with friends.

Mark, good mom's day gift.  The other day my neighbor did my car like that, first time it looked good in months.  I felt like I'd won the lottery.

LiveFreeNW, so caring of you to gather up those things into a care package for your mom.  And the flowers!

My mom is long RIP.  I remember what floated her boat:  She would specify shrubs and flowers she wanted for planting.  No jewelry or other useless swag.  I thought her choice didn't sound very much fun, but that's what she wanted.   And she had the greenest thumb...made everything bloom gloriously.

Candy, my mom's been gone for quite a while now, but that is how I imagine she would be spending Mom Day if there's a heaven. I also imagine they have a terrific Jewish deli there (she's a NYC gal).

My mom loved her plants, too. The daily watering ritual took a solid hour. We also had all sorts of stuff in the back yard.

I had friends who made the horrible mistake of moving from the SF Bay Area to Fort Worthless, Tayucksass. Her daughter sent her birthday and Mom Day care packages with items such as San Francisco sourdough bread and Napa wine.

She lives on Maui. I live in Washington State.  So, luckily we both live in nice places we enjoy.

They don't have huckleberries in Hawaii. They don't have macadamia nuts in Washington. Engage in trade.
