More Than 50% of Republicans Support Medicare For All

More than half of Republicans in a new American Barometer poll say they support "Medicare for all," also known as a single-payer health-care system.

The survey, conducted by Hill.TV and the HarrisX polling company found that 52 percent of Republicans polled said they supported the option, while 48 percent said they opposed it.

There you have it.  The majority of Republicans want a big government health care system.  Are these Republicans freeloaders looking for a handout or did they simply wisen up and realize this type of system is the least expensive and provides the most coverage?

Wonder if the response would be the same if the questions were asked this way.

Would you support medicare for all if your taxes would double?

Are you aware that Medicare is currently 48 trillion in debt?

Why would they include questions like that when the premise of the questions aren't true?  The CBO concluded a single payer with universal coverage would be the least expensive medical system the U.S. could adopt. So how would that double their taxes? It would cost less than our current system.

Many think Medicare is free......or cheap......it isn't.

It isn't but the point is it is a hell of a lot cheaper than private insurance.

Kindly define "a hell of a lot cheaper".

Kaiser estimates the cost per medicare beneficiary is almost $11,000.

Is Mark denying the $48 trillion shortfall?

California, Colorado & I think Vermont have all researched this scheme & discarded it upon realizing that it would require huge tax increases.

Once again, poor old DonDiego finds himself in the minority.

Actually it's not as uncomfortable as it might seem.  The majority is often wrong, . . . and bad things happen.

“Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to reform (or pause and reflect).”

― Mark Twain

Tom writes: "Kaiser estimates the cost per medicare beneficiary is almost $11,000."

(Lets ignore that Tom is citing a source he routinely references as being partisan and not credible)

Tom's citation is correct - because they're all old people...and Medicare has a "name your own price" relationship with the drug companies.

Costs in countries with evil Socialist healtcare for the entire population cost about 1/2 of ours with better outcomes.  Thats the data......And this is where a conservative will come in a tell an anecdotal story about someone in rural Canada that had to wait 3 months for surgery.

The good news is that this issue is shaping up much like other recent liberal victories:  gay marriage  and legalized pot

Those issues also started off as fringe positions sought by loony liberals in California.   But as more Democrats got the balls to fight for them and educate the public the more popular they became.

The outrageous costs of US healthcare impact voters of all demographics and political ideologies.   I suspect  the idea of a cheaper system  will catch on....especially in the wake of Republicans alternative plan - the big empty box they've been pointing at since 2009
