Moscow Mitch & Leningrad Lindsey Agree To Hold Vote On UBI (Universal Basic Income)

If you have not already heard, Trump signed the stimulus but on the condition of Moscow Mitch agreeing to hold a vote on the 2k per-adult checks in the Senate. The house vote will come Monday.  As I understand it to hold the vote in The House Republicans will have to agree to suspend regular order putting them in an awkward position.  If they vote no, the Georgia Senate candidates will find themselves in a difficult position.  Leningrad Lindsey negotiated this deal with Trump.

I doubt that the Republiholes will back down from their adamant fiscal-responsibility-unless-we're-talking-about-giving-gifts-to-billionaires stance. Remember, all their pious rhetoric was a core element of their propaganda all year. What would it look like if they suddenly became SOOOOOOCIALISTS and started giving away money to the common people?

UBI is a concept that has considerable merit, actually. But every time it's mentioned, the conservatives pop up their heads and start screaming how it would make us all commies. The discussion never gets to the stage of considering why it's a good or bad idea.

Of course, Mitch agreed to that condition because he knows his slaves in the Senate won't vote for the $2,000, so it was a painless concession for him. He's played Trump like a fiddle throughout, and this was a way to soothe the Orange Orangutan's ego at no real cost.

You do realize that the $10 million about is three cents for every person in the US, right? And before anybody gets all exercised about it, they should note that this funding was part of the omnibus spending bill, NOT the Covid relief/stimulus bill. Those sort of provisions get stuffed into omnibus spending bills all the time--and they don't favor one side or the other. There have always been plenty of nice "porky" provisions that favor big business, usually in some legislator's home town. They get traded for stuff like this.

The money in question was nothing more or less than direct foreign aid to Pakistan, which they don't have to spend on gender identity programs or Beanie Babies or anything else. It was just an appealing label to put on it.

But y'know, if you want to get outraged about wasteful government spending, giving $1.9 trillion to billionaires--every year since 2018--was definitely wasteful. The gummint would have $5.7 trillion more in its coffers if not for the Trump tax giveaways. For those of you scoring at home, that's roughly $20,000 for each American citizen. Y'know, stimulating.
