What "election security" bill would prevent Russians from creating fake facebook accounts and doing what they did? Our intelligence agencies won't be attempting a coup in 2020 (congressional democrats might be), so they should be able to concentrate on stopping efforts to meddle.

You know it is funny. You conservatives keep saying Obama did nothing, but he did.  You all need to read and watch things other than conservative opinion media.

He imposed sanctions and kicked their diplomats out. He wanted to issue a joint statement with Congress saying we have proof Russia is trying to intervene in our elections. Guess who said no? None other than Mitch McConnell. I note since then McConnell has gotten a 200 million dollar payoff from a Russian oligarch owend company that was recently and somewhat magically excluded from sanctions.

Obama did this in December 2016, right before he left; even though he was aware of the problem for a few years priot to it.  Remember hillary's reset button & Obama's quote of "things will be more flexible after the election"

As usual mark misrepresents the alleged security bill.  It includes things such as overturning Citizens United, require presidential candidates to release their prior 10 years of tax returns (but exempts Congress), limit efforts to purge voter rolls & make it easier to register to vote.

None of these items address Russia.

Lets summarize where we stand on this board.

The birthers are upset Obama "did nothing" to stop the election meddling by Russia

The birthers are not upset Trump has "done nothing" to stop election meddling by Russia

The biorthers are not upset Trump tried 10 times to squash the investigation into the Russian meddling

The birthers dont think any legislation can help Russian meddling in the elections going forward.

McConnell did not object to a specific bill or specific line items within the bill.     He has made it clear he will ignore any bill..I repeat, any bill.....that addresses the topic of election security.    Period.

From the article that mark posted - there is a concern that the Democrats would tack on things that have nothing to do with election security.

 In an interview with McClatchy in April, Blunt noted that his party was concerned Democrats would use an election security bill to introduce additional amendments addressing issues raised in HR 1, such as voting rights.

Obama did nothing until AFTER the election. That is a reason to be upset.

How do you know what the Trump administration is doing to prevent meddling? You don't. If the Russians were back at it, Trump wouldn't sit back and watch it happen like Obama did.

Trump DID NOT try to "squash" the investigation into Russian meddling. Telling that lie over and over and over won't make it true.

What legislation would prevent meddling? Do tell! Gotta like your Freudian slip. Any legislation CAN help Russian meddling in elections going forward.
