Because people in general, and MAGAs in particular, are stupid, they overvalue whatever they have most recently seen. The debate is a perfect example of that. It didn't prove or disprove Biden's fitness--it was a single 90 minute event. But MAGAs and Democrats alike are treating it as though it was an apocalyptic event.
This myopia obscures the only real issue at hand. We CANNOT elect the evil racist dictator felon. Thus, we should vote for whoever opposes him, even if it's a potted plant.
Candy, you've seemed strangely blase about the dangers of a second Trump presidency, so I'll ask you directly: how do you feel about Trump retaking the Oval Office? Scary? Meh? Filled with joy?
Kevin, maybe indeed I've seemed "blase" about Trump being POTUS again. As you know I don't broadcast my political preferences for several reasons: 1) I am the least politically astute person on the planet; my opinions are formed, and change day to day, by my reading of [what I consider] decently learned contributors, local and nationally known, to our tremendously non-partisan newspaper. No CNN, Fox, NPR (do they still exist?) gets my respect, and believe me, there was a time 20 or more years ago I watched Fox News religiously, but those days are over. 2) I've actually not taken real seriously the likelihood of Trump making it to the nomination stage, let alone elected President, so kind of like...as you say...I've been somewhat blase about it. My mouth is agape that he has regained/retained such popularity. I'm aghast at his denial of his 2020 defeat, and his promotion of the events on Jan. 6th. 3) Still and all, I grew up in a time, and a household, when the POTUS, even a potted plant one, was accorded a significant degree of respect just for being the POTUS. And, like what you paid for your house, was something the ordinary man/woman on the street kept to themselves. 4) I think growing up under Bill Clinton administrations (state and national) may have, how does one say it, numbed me to the fact that polititians are basically sleeze balls taking my tax money for causes that I do not understand. To say he was a womanizer is an understatement, and I think he did some things worse than Trump...some things, maybe not as many things. Ever heard of Vince Foster?
But, I digress, and can't really answer your question to your satisfaction, other than to say that a) I wish that Asa Hutchinson had seriously and timely put himself out there for the nomination, and b) I'm like a kindergarten teacher...boys, boys, stop the fighting! Which is an incredibly naive stance in regard to partisan politics. Sorry.
Unless Joe Biden bounces back from the state of catatonia that he displayed the other night, we are in deep do do regarding the next POTUS
