Thanks for putting yourself out there and keeping it real, Candy.  Much appreciated.

Like you, I am not a very political person.  I actually don't care for political parties, but for my own personal beliefs, I side more Democrat or Liberal, as some like to post, than conservative.  Not happy with what transpired at the debate in regards to Biden's struggles, but will vote for him in November.  I just can't vote for a POS like Trump.  He talks a good game and has lots of people believing he's running for the good of the country, but the dude has never done anything but for himself.  He loves the attention, nothing more.

Despite of overwhelming evidence to the contrary to what you say about President Trump, you blindly base your vote for a crooked, lying puppet who has completely ruined America in 3 1/2+ years You are and remain incredibly obtuse. Please stay in California.

Boy, Edso, I would LOVE to not be a very political person. In point of fact, I'd like to ignore the whole goddamn process and just kick back, with the complacent assurance that our country was being run responsibly and with an overall regard for our collective well-being. But I've seen the damage being done. To name just two issues that drive me nuts and should not be political at all, we still don't have universal single-payer health care and we still aren't dealing with climate change, even though it's turning out to be even worse than the most pessimistic predictions!

I also, as you might have gathered, don't like discrimination and bigotry and have been appalled by the cavalier way in which conservatives have crusaded to strip away basic human rights from women and minorities. If I'm apolitical, I'm condoning all that shit. So I can't be apolitical.

And finally, I do believe that all that is needed for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.

Kevin, maybe indeed I've seemed "blase" about Trump being POTUS again.  As you know I don't broadcast my political preferences for several reasons: 1) I am the least politically astute person on the planet; my opinions are formed, and change day to day, by my reading of [what I consider] decently learned contributors, local and nationally known, to our tremendously non-partisan newspaper.  No CNN, Fox, NPR (do they still exist?) gets my respect, and believe me, there was a time 20 or more  years ago I watched Fox News religiously, but those days are over.  2) I've actually not taken real seriously the likelihood of Trump making it to the nomination stage, let alone elected President, so kind of like...as you say...I've been somewhat blase about it.  My mouth is agape that he has regained/retained such popularity.  I'm aghast at his denial of his 2020 defeat, and his promotion of the events on Jan. 6th.  3) Still and all, I grew up in a time, and a household, when the POTUS, even a potted plant one, was accorded a significant degree of respect just for being the POTUS.  And, like what you paid for your house, was something the ordinary man/woman on the street kept to themselves.  4) I think growing up under Bill Clinton administrations (state and national) may have, how does one say it, numbed me to the fact that polititians are basically sleeze balls taking my tax money for causes that I do not understand.  To say he was a womanizer is an understatement, and I think he did some things worse than Trump...some things, maybe not as many things.  Ever heard of Vince Foster?

But, I digress, and can't really answer your question to your satisfaction, other than to say that a) I wish that Asa Hutchinson had seriously and timely put himself out there for the nomination, and b) I'm like a kindergarten teacher...boys, boys, stop the fighting!  Which is an incredibly naive stance in regard to partisan politics.  Sorry.

Unless Joe Biden bounces back from the state of catatonia that he displayed the other night, we are in deep do do regarding the next POTUS

Candy

I can't really agree with your blanket assessment of all politicians as money-grubbing sleazeballs--at the very, very least, there's quite a bit of variation is terms of degree, yes?

Call me naive if you wish--I do think that there ARE people out there who genuinely care about the welfare of Joe and Janet American and make that their priority. FDR was one. So was Truman. Kennedy, for sure. Maybe even Ronny Raygun. Clinton--hell, no. Bush and Bushie--hell, no. Obama, yes. Trump? Jesus God, no. Biden? Yes, definitely.

Now, I know that what I just said will make our resident conservitards start furiously bleating. But I don't give a rat's ass what they think. My evaluations are simple. Has a politician, President or otherwise, taken action, or advocated for action, that would benefit the people even though it would harm him politically? If so, that person's not a sleazeball.

If you want two examples of the above, I'll simply point to Obamacare, which forced Obama to burn up ALL his accumulated political capital and STILL drives many conservitards to white-hot anger, and Biden's climate change mitigation efforts, many of which aren't sexy or glamorous but ALL of which attract the vitriolic wrath of the fossil fuel companies, prompting them to hand bags of gold to ANYONE who will oppose him in ANY way for ANY reason. If they hadn't done those things, their political journey through the rapids would have been much more peaceful. In Biden's case, he would be sailing along at high speed right now, without the rabid opposition of the politicos who are shadow employees of the fossil fuel industry--speaking of sleazeballs.

Anyway, thanks for sharing your opinions. Unlike David, even if we disagree, I'll never scream at you, call you a liar, and accuse you of destroying America. Take care.

You are probably right.  I did like Asa, Ike, Carter, GW Bush, Reagan (yes, sorry if you don't) etc.  I suspect many of them started out with values, morals.  It just seems that once they are in the big time, maybe greed takes over.
