My Sentiments Exactly

 Perfectly said - https://www.facebook.com/reel/1245308637796690

I believe that this isn't as simple as it sounds.  Immigrants, legal or illegal, aren't walking up to me and taking money from me in person.  The government 'legalizes' the taxes that support them in whatever ways.  It is how those systems work that should be geared to enriching our country.  Clearly I do not understand the assylum system, but I'm sure it serves a purpose, but to what end?

A problem is how all of this is characterized in social media, to 1) focus on the sob story of what happened yesterday in anywhere USA, the 'rounding up' of those who are "sent home."  I/we don't know how it was done, were they truly "given opportunities" to go back, with or without their children/parents?

My SIL from Phillipines, became a Registered Nurse there.  In the 1970s or so the US recognized a severe nursing shortage, 'brought' groups of nurses to the US from other countries including the Philipines, jobs ready.  No doubt I "paid" for from my taxes for this program of bringing nurses over to our shores.  But why was there such a shortage, why weren't there enough American nurses?

SIL worked in a hospital where my brother worked as an orderly while in medical school.  They fell in love and married.  SIL was naturalized/citizenship.  Then she did whatever one does to start bringing some of her 12 siblings to the US.  Three sisters (unmarried) arrived together.  SIL drove them around town for two weeks to apply for jobs.  After that two weeks, two of them had a job each, and the third one had two jobs, all became citizens, have been productive, married, raised families etc.  That's how it should be done.

Candy, first of all, you have to understand why immigrants are still degraded and demonized, 300 years after they first started coming to America.

The reality is that in the entirety of American history, immigrants have been a net positive. Sometimes there have been support mechanisms, which cost tax and/or private dollars, but the end result is: productive citizens. Larger GDP. Diversity. Increased capacity. Everyone with a brain knows this.

So why the anti-immigrant hate? First of all, it's racism. Hatred of non-white people is baked deep, deep, deep into the American psyche. Consider that thousands of people cheered and cheered when Charlie Kirk said (repeatedly) that the Civil Rights Act was a "mistake." There are millions of Americans who, if given a license to, would happily hunt down and kill every black, brown, yellow, and red person in the country.

Which ties into the reason why our current "government" is scapegoating immigrants. Fascist regimes always need scapegoats. Economy's bad? Blame the Jews. Blame the "niggahs." Blame the brown people "floodin' 'cross our borders." This helps the regime to deflect and distract from its own failings.

Insofar as asylum seekers are concerned, there's a complicated history and rationale. I'll discuss that in another post after this one.

The history of "asylum" policy in the US starts with the prewar plight of German Jews. We knew what was happening to them, but we all but barred them from coming to the US--only a very, very few were allowed to come here, even temporarily. Part of the reason was a general policy of isolationism; there was also a surprising amount of anti-Semitism and pretty enthusiastic support for the Nazi regime. (We like to cloak ourselves in Saviors of the World shiny robes, but the fact is, we were closer to being allies than enemies of Nazi Germany in, say, 1936.)

If you want an interesting microcosm of US vs. the Jews policy back then, look up the story of the Bremen and what happened to its asylum-seeking passengers.

After the war, we had a massive guilt trip. We could have prevented the Holocaust simply by admitting the European Jews. And it's not like these were unproductive people who would have been a burden. Quite the opposite! And Germany repeatedly asked multiple nations--not just the US--to take the Jews off their hands. We could have added several million educated, talented people to our citizenry and our workforce. Instead, they were slaughtered.

Fast forward to the Vietnam Clusterfuck, er, War. Millions of refugees, including people who would be killed if the North Vietnamese caught up with them. Over one million South Vietnamese were rounded up and killed by the conquering regime in the period 1975--1977. So we had another guilt trip--what happened was precisely the thing we had been there to prevent--and we relaxed our asylum laws.

And in subsequent years, every time some tinpot dictator somewhere in the world ran amuck and started slaughtering people, we said, you can come here and shelter until Emperor Nutjob is forced out of power. Trouble is, in most instances, he or someone equally despicable is still in charge.

From a simple humanitarian standpoint, as well as common decency, we have ample, ample resources to offer people who have nowhere else to go--and "Christian charity," or whatever you want to call it, dictates that those who have such resources should offer them to those in need.

That said, the most fervent Bible-thumping holy rollers, especially in red states, are among the loudest, most vehement in opposition to admitting asylum-seekers. Christian charity apparently has its limits when you're talking about giving someone a bed and a bowl of soup.

Stupid kevin can't distinguish between illegal and legal.

Conservatives support legal immigration but don't support illegal immigration.

Amazing how people only needed asylum from 21-24,but in 25 they don't.

MAGA HATES immigrants. Legal or illegal. Trump channeled Hitler and said that they were "poisoning the blood of our country." And you whipped out your tiny dick and started furiously beating off. Don't you remember that?

People need asylum now. The fact that the Turd hate factory is denying them doesn't mean there is any less need.

And as far as not being able to distinguish between legal and illegal immigrants--youve made approximately 5,000 posts about those TRILLYUNS of ILLEGULS in NYC.

All of whom were legally admitted to the US.

God, you're a moron.
