I always thought the best response to stuff like that, hate rallys, protests, etc. is giving no attention whatsoever to it. As in the old saying "What if they held a parade (war?) and nobody came?"

I think the best reponse is to attend those events as a spectator and record the faces of every single participant, then post the images on a website devoted to the purpose. Eventually, some kind of recognition software can be employed---or people who see the website can report--to identify the participants.
The purpose would be like that of those websites that keep track of sex offenders--to identify dangerous individuals. Ideally, they would find themselves unable to get (or keep) a job, rent housing, etc. etc.
