National Newspaper exposes Trump's Weakness on the World Stage

I don't think you understand how farming works.  Farmers do not store their own crops anymore.  They are taken to the elevator when harvested, so they have no leverage.  They do decide when to sell , but that is like saying the social secerity fund is in a locked box and cannot be used by the government

What do they do with crops they can't sell? What do they do with crops they don't have the labor to harvest? What do they do when they have the available labor, but due to some fascist asshole destroying their market, they can't afford to harvest?

Farmers have been hurt by Trump to a greater extent than almost every other business sector. But I wasn't referring so much to the current clusterfuck as to next year. Would YOU sink millions into planting a crop, your ability to harvest and sell it depending entirely on whether an elderly fascist craps his diaper at the wrong time?

In case you haven't noticed , that is what farmers do every year.  Hoping that the next year will be better than the last.  And every year some of the little guys can't make it and get bought out by bigger companies

Of course. Since civilization began. But they've very rarely also had to contend with the unhinged whims of a diaper-filling mentally crumbling orange shithead.

None of those little guy soybean farmers would be in trouble now if the aim of guy who shot Trump had been a bit better. Farmers have to put up with vagaries of weather, commodity prices, labor, finances, etc. etc.--but they rarely have to deal with politics. This year, though, Trump's idiot moves have put their livelihoods on the line.

I've said in the past that entrepreneurial farming might eventually become obsolete because of how risky it is and the economy of scale advantage enjoyed by agribusiness. But the Turd is making it even harder for them. They got what they voted for.

They did get what they voted for and are thrilled about it in our area. No farmer in the midwest would ever vote for regulating cow farts.  Obama and Biden made sure farmers in the midwest would vote republican for the next 20  years.  I cannot speak for farming on the coast, picking apples and oranges, , but I imagine they had issues too with protecting the field mouse, or a wetland area on their farm .Migrant labor for them is probably a real issue, but I am guessing migrant crime is too.  As Americans we all have to deal with the good and bad from elections and come up with ways to be successful.

Well, I'm on the coast (Oregon), and the first thing I can tell you is that the MAGA "migrant crime" bleat is horseshit. The Pacific Northwest absolutely depends on migrant labor. Pears, berries, and grapes in Oregon; apples in Washington as the summer ripening goes on.

We can't afford to demonize or mistreat these workers. In fact, quite the opposite. From Ashland to Bellingham, there are temporary migrant longhouses near the farms where they will work. The closest resemblance is to the bothys of 19th and 20th century Scotland. The workers pay a very modest rent to stay there for what's usually 2-3 weeks; then northward to the next harvest. We very, very rarely see any trouble. They make good money. All these crops have very short lifespans, from ripeness to rotting in the ground, so time is of the essence and a mobile, skilled labor force is needed. Everybody wins.

Trump's ICE thugs tried a few raids around here and were met with open hostility. So far this summer, they've left us alone. Even so, there have been labor shortages, as many workers, scared, chose to not come north at all.

I can tell that you listen overmuch to MAGA propaganda. Farms don't get shut down because of endangered species concerns. Even in TERRIBUL LIBURRUL Oregon. The reason? Endangered species only exist in isolated wild areas. Not farms. Duh. Likewise your "cow farts" comment; farm animals' methane emissions have a real environmental impact and should be studied. It's no different from a factory smokestack.

A large part of being successful is to not self-destruct. MAGA farmers have done exactly that by voting for an idiot asshole who is destroying their markets.

Why is MAGA always so negative when they speak about Obama and Biden, why can't they look at the positives? We should have a section devoted to only positive discussions about Obama and Biden.

Taiwan just submitted two letters of intent to purchase "at least" $5.56 B in U.S. products, from 2026 to 2029, corn, corn products, and soybeans.  Good news for our farmers, in the midst of harvest right now.

Candy

That's great news.

If China can take Taiwan and also take control of the South China Sea, all that would go away. It would be very bad news for both the US and the world.

I would agree Max.  A posiitive thead about Obama and Biden would be great.  I will start by saying that America elected a black predident proving that we are not a rasist country.  We have come a long way

Joe Biden was elected president with a black female running mate  proving that America is not a rasist or sexist country.  We should all feel good about the progress made to bring our country together.
