Trump may indeed win the 2020 election, but to say that he loves this country is laughable. People who love their country don't encourage and facilitate acts of war against it. Trump did that, no matter how much you "conservs" (the opposite of "libs") try to deny it. He's a traitor. And so, Trumpers, are you.

Some people lack reading comprehension skills. My original post included, "If this story holds up..."  Meanwhile, we still have people here who believe that Obama was born in Kenya.

And people who believe that climate change isn't real, and that Trump is a stable genius...

Actually the Founding fathers were more specific about the rights of "every person".

 

 

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. That whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness."

 

There is, unfortunately no mention of "thriving" or "being happy", . . . but it is still a good read.

There is. You can find them in the preamble of the Constitution.

 

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

 

 

 

I note the Constitution is considered binding legal authority while the Declaration of Independence is not.

Poor old DonDiego opines that nothing which President Trump or his supporters generally have done qualifies as an act of treason.

 

Therefore neither President Trump nor his followers are traitors.

 

 

 

 

 

Inciting and abetting an act of war against one's own country makes one a traitor. Trump did that. Therefore, he's a traitor.

 

Supporting a person who commits treason abets that treason, and such support is therefore also treasonous. Therefore, Trumpers are traitors.

In any event, Don, I was more referring to my personal views about what a person's fundamental rights are, not those enshrined in our country's founding documents. But I consider them to be similar. Despite the Right's co-opting of patriotism as a buzzword, I feel that liberals are the true patriots. We believe in human rights. Even for them scuzzy Messkins and Mooozleeems.

According to Dictionary.com, Tranquility = Quality or state of being tranquil; calmness; peacefulness; quiet; serenity. Everyone is different of course, but that certainly defines my idea of happiness. Even the Declaration of Independence you quoted, says the pursuit of happiness is an unalienable right. Given our founding documents, it is clear we are guaranteed something more than just the right to get by.
