NCAA Tourney

I get mildly annoyed that during this time of year, when the weather is actually pleasant in Vegas, the NCAA tourney induces a) heavy visitation b) high room prices c) no promos. Many's the time when I've floated the idea of a spring break trip only to find that the Silver Commode wants $399/night + taxes + resort fee + because we can fee.

I think that the "MY team" jingoism gets played for all it's worth. I see all these folks in the sports books having a very loud public orgasm every time "their" team hits a 3-pointer, and I know it isn't because their $50 bet just became a little likelier to win; they identify with "their" team. And considering that the player who just made that shot is a native of Burkina Faso who received a full scholarship as well as a private jet ride to Cornball State, because of his academic prowess of course and not because he's seven foot four, identifying with him is kind of ludicrous for those fans.

It warmed my heart to see Duke go down yesterday.  Great comeback from U CONN

Not a fan of either team.  Hurley is a whiner.

My team made it to the Sweet Sixteen, then got clobbered by the giants of Arizona.

UCONN's Mullins' facial expression, looked to me like he wasn't optimistic himself that he could pull it off!

Im the only one in my bracket that has Illinois winning it all....in fact, Im the only one who has them in the final 4.      I dont even like that school.

Hard not to root for UCONN after that buzzer beater. 

I'll pull for Illinois, PJ, since I don't have another dog in the fight.

I need to call my 95 y/o uncle, from NC, now in assisted living.  He'd always be bantering with other NC school alums of his age group, family or friends, who will win or 'should have' won this or that NC school.  LOL

None of the teams currently competing have any actual students of their universities on their rosters. They have professional entertainers, employees masquerading as students. So rooting for "your" team is silly. They're no more part of "your" college crowd than they are Martians.

Says who, Kevin?   This morning on NBC news, Mullins was asked "what is next for you tomorrow", given his sudden 'fame' after sinking that buzzer beater heard 'round the country.  He said "I have a class Monday morning."
