New York Wakes Up Under Socialism after Mamdani Sworn In

There are 2 problems with this mandate; which is typical for NYC.

1- There is no difference between the can the city is mandating and the standard garbage can sold in most stores; other than it has a NYC label on it.  Many people already have this style but have to junk it because it doesn't have a NYC label on it. A waste of people's money.

2- As uusual the city mandates people buy somthing and then hires a supplier who cannot fulfill the order, but says people will be fined if they don't have their can.

A pretty absurd policy for sure. Most areas just have dimension and other requirements the cans must conform to.

My area does indeed require specific cans. But those cans are provided by the company that has the garbage contract in that area.

Uniform can rules could be reasonable. But the way they did it looks like a money grab.

The trash cans in a "socialist" city seem to get you really riled up.  Does the fact that the United States of America is about invade an ally's territory and annex it against that country and the occupants' will? It would make Hitler and the Nazis proud--and you are worried about trash cans!?!?!?

A money grab would have been awarding the vendor a price that substantially exceeds what they normally charge. There's no indication that this was the case.

But if this WAS such a money grab...it would be a failure of capitalism, with price gouging combined with government mismanagement. Also, a failure of a supplier to provide enough of a product to fulfill a government contract--capitalism blowing it, again.

Under a socialist regime, the government would already own the cans. Game, set, and match, Tommy.

Not just any trash cans; radical liberal liberal radical woke woke woke trash cans. Anybody using them should be shot by an ICE agent.

I've never received an honest answer to my "what's wrong with socialism" question, and I doubt I ever will. Just allow me to edumacate Tom that under a socialist regime, the government would own all the cans and the collection and disposal of trash would be free (paid for by overall taxation, of course). Not much different than the existing policy of free public roads and the government paying for the maintenance thereof. A public good in either instance.

It seems like a hardship to force low income people to go out and buy a couple new trash cans.  And how do you get them home on the subway ?  How do you get rid of the old ones ? Is there a recycle plan ?  In our city both the city and private venders fee for using the city trash containers are included in the weekly trash service.  Sounds like NYC is probably getting a kickback.  Also they are creating a black market for trash containers since the city will not know if the were purchased or stolen

I suspect somebody will copy the logo and sell them for a few dollars

Since Tom now lives on the other side of the country, I doubt that his yeeping about this non-issue is sincere.

It doesn't seem like anything anyone who doesn't live in NYC should be concerned about. Not with Trump threatening to go to war with Europe and protesters being gunned down in the streets.

Oh, and BTW, there's an excellent reason for only using the NYC-labeled trash containers, but this thread has already gone on for far too long.

I suspect Trump will copy the swastika for his flag--but in garish, gold plate.

I dunno. He might not be able to resist the temptation to put his face on it.

By money grab I meant the city collecting money from the people of New York.

I could be mistaken but it was my understanding that the city is requiring people to purchase the can from the city or from a limited number of retailers.

At least that is the type of policy to which my comments were refering.

I wouldn't describe a supply shortage brought on by the government mandating a monopoly distributor as a failure of capitalism.

Also I never used the word socialist to describe the policy. I called it bad government policy. And my name isn't Tommy.

Not sure if you thought you quoted another post or if that was supposed to be some kind of insult.

All I did was say it sounded like bad policy and said it would be better if cans were provided by the trash collector or by multiple vendors.
