"No Kings"

Where is this Boebert country you speak of,  Never heard this reference.  Local nbc was showiing chicago protests, nothing local, but glad they had fun in Oregon and weren't nasty or disruptive

The Congressional district that...somehow...elected Boebert. Unbelievably, but true. A confabulation of rich bitches in Aspen and a gaggle of dirt farmers on the Western Slope who wouldn't be in business without massive federal help but spend every morning in the local coffee shop complaining about THAT DURN FEDERAL GUMMINT. I know. I used to live there.

Our town's showing was substantial, especially for a Red state.  Good coverage in the Sunday newspaper.

Were aspersions cast on the demonstrators or their motives? Most news outlets nationwide reported this from a neutral perspective, with the expected exception of Fox Nooze, which used the usual MAGA buzzwords to demean and insult the protests.

None that made the newspaper.   No arrests or responses to complaints requiring city police or county sheriffs.

"Hundreds showed up...protesters showed up energized with signs, megaphones,  American flags and costumes includ[ing] a shark, a unicorn [protesters joined up with a planned Pride Parade march] and a baby with Trump's face on it...some show[ing] a picture of Trump smiling with...Jeffrey Epstein...while protesters chanted and danced, drivers heading up and down Broadway honked their horns in support..."its not the radicals and the crazies that are out...Its just normal people who care about the country" said one protester..."A 76 y/o retired history and civics teacher wore a three-pointed hat like the ones revolutionary soldiers wore.  She decided to attend out of concern that the Constitution and the Bill of Rights are being trampled by the Trump administration...A fleet of cars representing over 10 different religious congregations, youth groups and the Miss Gay xxxx pagent rode down the avenue to cheers from the crowd."

Makes me proud of my poor, southern, Red state for this demonstration of "discontent with what they see as the Trump administration's continued authoritarian power grabs" without violence.

The kind of action 'by the people' that should catch somebody's attention.

Thanks, Candy. MAGA is full of bile and vitriol today, calling the protestors, among many other things, "traitors" and "unAmerican" for daring to criticize and challenge their orange god. And I don't mean the fringe nutcase conservative media, either. I mean Fox Nooze.

If you want to really be disgusted, check out what Speaker Mike Johnson said yesterday about the protestors: they all "hate America":and are "Hamas supporters." (???) Glad to see that your community isn't climbing onto that bandwagon.

My memory is unclear, as I was only in grade school at the time, but I seem to remember those protesting the Vietnam War also being characterized as unAmerican, violent, crazy, evil, ugly, fattening, and blah blah blah.

Remember? -- May be an image of the Oval Office and text that says 'NO KINGS Your party skipped the primary, crowned .y Kamala withouta a single vote, and tried to erase Trump from the ballot when your legal warfare crashed and burned. That' S not democracy -that' s authoritarianism with a blue sticker.'

And...yer out!

Here we had informative man-on-the-street reports about at least a couple of cities' No Kings events.   No hate, just what went on in a couple different home towns.

But, yessss, David's right to interrupt the reasoned exchange of facts with juvenile memes is protected.  How did things go where you live, David?
