Has anyone seen the new "Nuremberg" film? Reviews say that Russell Crowe is terrific as JD Vance, er, Hermann Goering, and that far more screen time than might be expected is spent on the strange relationship between him and the psychiatrist who interviews him. The former plays the latter like a fiddle, partly because the latter is primarily interested in writing a best-selling book about the experience.
This film isn't like the original, which started Spencer Tracy and is a classic. Goering is shown to be, and played by Crowe as, a charming, manipulative bastard who is also stone cold evil. I've seen enough clips to think that this portrait of the man who was First Lackey to a horribly evil, murderous fascist dictator is a chilling guide to the mind of the man who is currently in the same position. Though Goering never accuses the Jews of eating cats.
Certainly a film for our time. Hitler took the coward's way out and was never held accountable for his crimes, and Trump will likewise croak long before he ever faces justice. Their lackeys were, and will be, left behind to make excuses for them.
