NYC Mayor Adams (a D) has called the national leadership out on this issue..because his NYC metro area's so- called social safety net has been sorely challenged to accommodate 32K+ migrants that have infused the city to date. Even Adams wants to get re-elected (probably)..and likely sees this situation as one that could endanger that. That 32K figure was reported by a NY Times ( the historic Gold Star winner among liberal media sources) article in Dec. 2022. Even a few CNN reports are now referring to the situation as a "border crisis". Additionally, Biden finally visited the border and suggested a digital app for asylum seekers would somehow alleviate the problem. It's laughable..and the entire migrant surge allowance is intentional, imo.
To date, the R's in DC are just as culpable in allowing this migrant situation to escalate as the D administration, imo. IOW, they haven't done much beyond verbally spewing about how egregious the situation is at press conferences and cable TV news appearances. Apparently over 130 US Republican Congressional members have visited the southern borders ( some of them multiple times; how many times does the border and all the surrounding national aftermath have to be witnessed before some action is taken?).The Senate / House R reps are culpable because they've essentially done nothing substantive about it. There are rumors about the Mayorkas impeachment proceedings, etc...and they continue to talk about how bad the situation is. I'm aware the House R's have only gained any power for a limited few weeks, but their all-hat-no-cattle actions to date have largely been worthless beyond that. The House has introduced a Border Security Act bill and it will be up for a vote soon, but McConnell and his cronies will likely prevent passage in the Senate ( it's not likely to pass a Senate vote). Then of course if by some unknown lightning strike it does pass the two houses, Biden will likely veto it.
So, do you liberals here think the migrant surge is a problem or not ( I've asked that in here previously some time back..just wondering your stances on it now that a few D figures and liberal media sources are referring to it as a problem)? Then you can try and convince me that this entire situation was not intentionally driven from the outset to eventually secure more future D votes by the current administration. You won't have much luck doing so, but let your voices be heard if you care to. Is the border truly secure or not? Try and tell the truth, will ya?
And Go Cowgirls....
The "migrant surge problem" wasn't a problem until grandstanding RepubliQ politicians made it so. People have been presenting themselves at our borders and requesting asylum and/or long term admittance for almost two centuries. The same rhetoric has been tossed around ever since. Politicians have always tried to make poltical hay with fear of the "other." THEY are coming, and they're going to take YER JOBZ and YER WIMMENFOLK and YER TACO TRUCKS. (If you ever saw "Gangs of New York," its depiction of how new immigrants were hated by the people who had just arrived, er, last week was pretty accurate.)
Because I'm a student of history, I know we are and always have been a nation of immigrants. Because I'm also a student of economics, I know that a country that blocks immigration stagnates (see: Japan). Because I don't want our country to be 100% meat-and-potatoes devout Christian blah blah, I welcome the arrrival of people with divergent views, lifestyles, customs, etc. We NEED immigrants--it's not a matter of merely tolerating them, as the RepubliQ preach.
To answer your latest question...let me just say that it's one of the dumbest you've ever asked, not just here but in your lifetime, and one of the most conspiracy theory monger-worthy statements (because it was only a rhetorical question, actually) I've ever read. It could have easily dribbled straight from the mouth of Tucker Carlson. Maybe he'll give you a medal.
Oh, and the border is as secure as we want it to be, which, if you like, is "not very." Just like our border with Canada isn't secure. And in each case, why not? Because someone crossing the border without permission isn't that big of a deal, and neither is their staying for a while. It would be a tremendous waste of money to fortify the border with minefields and machine gun nests, even if it might provide some juicy RepubliQ porn in the form of videos of FEELTHY MESSKINS bleeding to death on the banks of the Rio Grande.
And yes, Charles, I know your orange hero told us they're all murderers and rapists.
