On the Green New Deal

Another example of why the green deal will fail

Technically he Governor is not "pulling the plug" entirely.  A section of the planned rail-system will be completed in the mainly agricultural Central Valley between Merced and Bakersfield.

DonDiego is uncertain what the Mercedians have that the Bakersfieldians do not, but he opines the increased economic activity between them is unlikely to cover costs of the line.   So the California taxpayers will be on-the-hook for the foreseeable future.

California finished the year with an 8.8 BILLION dollar surplus.

See? Democrats pay for their legislation

Geez, thats enough to pay for Trump's Wall and then some!   Thats what happens when you're honest about reconciling the budget instead of promising voters another country will

California’s 2 major pensions have an unfunded liability of almost $130 billion

So much for pj’s fantasy of Democrats paying for their legislation.

For people who are actually interested in seeing (broadly) what is in the Green New Deal CNN has produced an outline.

Green New Deal - What is it?

Most of it is just a general platform filled with traditional Democrat perspectives and some new ones.   Much of it has nothing to do with "Green".      Just going throuh it I can tell much of it would have a hard time passing through a Democrat caucus - let alone a full blown vote in Congress.    You can think of it as a liberal version of Newt Gingrich's Contract with America that largely provided alot of red meat to voters but didn't see much actual implementation.

However, I can see some parts of it going through:

- The smart energy grid has been a bi-partisan infrastructure pursuit for years....even W wanted it

- Cheaper drugs (was is that green?) is also more and more bi-partisan.   In fact thats low handing fruit for anyone wanting to put a dent in the deficit.

- You could require more energy efficient materials be used in construction going forward (just like the big, controversial switch to spiral light bulbs).    That would be a compromise on requiring existing structures be retrofitted with green materials.

I think most of the renewable energy goals are already well under way.     The auto industry is aggressively moving towards EV and renwable power is rapidly becoming cheaper than fossil fuels....it already is depending on your geography.    But I would favor the government "picking winners and losers" once again to speed that up.      It certainly helped get us this far.

PJ defending the un defendable.

Another example of liberal do as I say not as I do.

Crazy cortez despite living in a region that has the most accessible mass transit in the country, rarely uses mass transit.  Instead she opts for airplane travel & gas guzzlng autos

Snap!  That was the big right wing attack against Nancy Pelosi too.

You cant be for alternative energy if you drive a car...or fly on a plane....or live in a heated house.

So I'll retort with an equally idiotic argument.   You cant be a capitalist if you drive you car on a socialist road or fly a plane that departs from a socialist airport.  Dont you feel ashamed, Tom?

Pj may want to read the definition of socialism.

In today's chapter of do as I say not as I do.

Crazy cortez's mother has moved from NY to Florida to avoid the high NY taxes

Curses!   Did she fly there on a plane?  And is she gonna play golf?   Somebody get Tom a tissue.
