On November 11, we honor veterans. On November 5, we dishonored them

It makes me sick to think that what all those brave servicemen and women have fought and died for, we've just voluntarily crumpled up, pissed on, and flushed away.

Thank you for your service, all of you veterans, and we're sorry that we couldn't keep what you gave us.

What specifically was destroyed? Is this a personal assessment of our flushings? Does this refer to a specific document or set of documents? Or rather our rights / freedoms?

According to a couple news sources, 60-65% of veterans voted for Trump in this recent election. Look it up

yourself (Pew research is one source). Course, you'll label those as conservative rag outlets.

When did I say that veterans hadn't voted for Trump? They're overwhelmingly old, white males, which has been Trump's most slavishly loyal demographic.

I nonetheless thank them, because I doubt that when they served, they fought or were ready to fight for the ascension of a dictator to absolute, permanent power and authoritarian, one-party rule. They've been seduced and deluded, just like all the others who voted for the Turd.

And if you have to ask what specific rights were recently destroyed, what acts were perpetrated, or what is impending, I'd ask you if you've been hiding under a rock recently.

I'll give you a very recent example. Trump, who after all is still a private citizen, is pressuring Senate Republicans to eliminate the confirmation procedure for his Cabinet picks and just rubber-stamp his entire slate of nominees. He told them that he wouldn't support anyone who didn't go along if they wanted to become Senate Majority Leader. So of course, they'll cave in.

Our elected Senators are supposed to vet and approve Cabinet nominees. Now, all of Trump's picks will be approved regardless, but he wants to sidestep that process "because it takes too long "

.

Is this the way you think a democracy is supposed to work?

I suppose you think a constitutional republic is a democracy.  Also, your side has no hold on democracy as your corrupt leadership selected a candidate for you.  So anything you have to say about this is moot.

Yes, it is. You masturbated/slept through your high school civics class, didn't you?

Historically, the Senate has overwhelmingly approved of an incoming president's cabinet nominations, and quite often very quickly with little debate. There's but a limited handful of exceptions to that general occurrence; there's in addition a handful of instances in which prospective nominees withdrew from consideration because they feared rejection before the formal confirmation process happened. I don't think they'll bypass the normal confirmation process for Trump nominees, either..especially with an R controlled Senate  The SCOTUS demanded the prez can't get cabinet nominees confirmed  without Senate approval in 2014 ( in addition to long-held Constitutional statutes); Trump can't override that. Again you assign him too much power. Vocalizing the intent to complete this process ( by Trump) may just prioritize the speedy confirmation of nominees.

I thought you were a history buff?

History ain't got nothing to do with it! We no longer have a democracy, and SCOTUS is nothing more than a gaggle of MAGA lackeys now.

Do you seriously think that a) Trump's Senate lackeys won't find some way to bypass the confirmation process, AS THEIR ORANGE MASTER HAS DEMANDED, with the juicy reward of Senate Majority Leader for whomever does the most to bring that about, and b) should this issue reach SCOTUS, that the same gang that granted Trump absolute power (and retroactively, at that!) will hesitate to blot out the previous ruling that you allude to?

I don't know why the Turd is in such a rush; maybe he's planning a December insurrection, so he can get into power that much sooner. He isn't getting any younger, you know.

And as a history buff...I'm all too aware of times when a dictator took over a democracy, and the country's citizens thought that the checks and laws that limited leaders' power would stop the worst of his planned behavior--until it became apparent that said dictator would effortlessly sweep those minor obstacles away.

You shouldn't be so dismissive of the danger. In fact, you should be scared shitless.

Geezy H Peezy. You believe that just due to Trump's convincing election victory that he will circumvent a plethora of laws and protections that have been in force for 2.5 centuries? You're beyond scared of him, then; he ain't got that much power..for the 9th time. EG I disagree. Are you ..like..dehydrated? Cornfusion is a known symptom.

And no, I don't think they'll bypass the process; they might speed it up, but no way they'll circumvent it. Again, I think this vocalized memo re: confirmation just highlights the intent toi prioritize it / get it done rapidly.

OK...time to ask you the $100,000 question: who's going to stop him?

SCOTUS? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

The lower courts? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

The Democratic Senate minority? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

The Democratic House minority? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

The voters? DOUBLE HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

His own party? Not bloody likely! They're competing with each other right now to curry Turd favor.

And I'm referring not just to the Senate confirmation procedures, but the "plethora of laws and protections" you mentioned. NONE of them are effective when one party rules all branches of government AND the courts AND has no ethics!

Your naivete is appalling but also not atypical.

Fine..think / do what ya want. But metaphorically,  we might need to contact 911..or First Alert on your behalf  because "you've fallen and you can't get up" regarding this election. Good luck.
