Opinions on Red Rock Casino and Resort and Green Valley Casino and Resort.

Thanks.

Regarding what? IMHO they're quite a bit alike. Both are Stations casinos and the gambling is pretty much the same (and still pretty good). Both are upscale-ish locals' casinos meant to cater to an affluent customer base (Green Vally and Summerlin, respectively).

Both places have good buffets and other restaurants. Both hotels are expensive-ish and nice. They both have lots of amenities that locals like, such as movie theaters. The only real difference I can think of is that Red Rock has a poker room.

Either place, you could easily spend a fun weekend and never leave the premises.

Kevin, thank for the info.  What is the average age of the clientele, and what's the vibe like?  While I don't want the 20 something crowd, I certainly don't want a ton of slow paced geriatric folks either.

Poor old DonDiego is quite content with his measured stride and mature inclinations.

At both places, you have a similar demographic--relatively affluent locals. The vibe isn't "old folks' home" and it isn't "party 'til dawn," either (a good example of the latter would be the Palms in its earlier incarnation or the D downtown). Both places have stuff for kids to do (movies, arcades, fast food courts), and each is in the middle of a commercial/residential area. Both are "where we go for fun" for a lot of locals, and default dining destination. I see families going to the buffet all the time, and then Mom and Dad hand the kids some money to go to the movies while they hit the slots.

This is pretty much the same vibe as you get in Palace Station, Boulder Station, or most of the neighborhood Boyd casinos. There's a difference between these two properties and those others, though, in that both Red Rock and GVR tout themselves as "destination resorts" and have amenities like spas and fancy-ass pools.

Another observation I would make is that at both places, people seem used to gambling and the casino environment and thus, you see very few people going absolutely berserko crazy and/or getting really, really drunk. Oh, and both places have large sports books and the games are always on TVs throughout the casino, if that floats your boat.

Been a number of years ago, but...

Red Rock casino felt kind of sterile to me.  I visited friend's hotel room, nice, nothing special.

Stayed at GVR several times.  Liked the hotel a lot, lovely rooms.  Quiet beautiful lobby, nice relief from Strip hustle bustle.  Casino not too noisy but not bland.  Wasn't bothered by kids, and I am very anti-kids in casinos.  As mentioned, arcades and theater and food court soak up a lot of kiddos somehow.

Once at GVR a couple left their baby in one of those carriers on the floor next to casino entry, technically two feet into non-casino footage but "we could watch him."  Security found them fast, sent them packing.  But I digress.

GVR is within walking distance of a nice strip mall with good barbeque place, other options.  Super pool areas, a cool bar I can't recall the name of...something ghostly.  Underground spa in the pool area?

Can't speak about slot/VP/table values at either place, too long ago (last at GVR when Michael Jackson allegedly hid out there during one of his legal crises, for reference).  We stopped going to GVR when they quit their shuttle to and from Mandalay Bay.  We don't drive in Vegas so this was a plus.   They do shuttle to and from the airport.
